A still from the film ‘Crime City’
A police officer who is the real-life model for the detective character ‘Ma Seok-do,’ portrayed by actor Ma Dong-seok in the action film ‘Crime City,’ has been brought to trial on drunk driving charges.
According to Yonhap News on the 17th, the Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office (Chief Prosecutor Shin Do-uk) indicted without detention Inspector A, who had been affiliated with the Seoul Suseo Police Station, on the 15th on a charge of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.
On November 24 last year at around 8:30 p.m., Inspector A, after drinking, was driving near Gangnam Severance Hospital in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, when he caused a minor collision.
His blood alcohol concentration at the time was at a license-revocation level (0.08% or higher), and no injuries were reported. Inspector A was relieved of duty after the drunk driving became known.
It is reported that prosecutors decided to indict in consideration of the following: although Inspector A is a first-time offender, he caused an accident while driving under the influence amid heavy traffic during commuting hours; his blood alcohol concentration was high; and he committed the offense while serving as a police officer.
Inspector A’s career as a detective is known to have inspired the protagonist Ma Seok-do in ‘Crime City.’ Ma Dong-seok, who starred in and produced ‘Crime City,’ conceived the film after interviewing detectives about their experiences.
