Coupang Play comedy show ‘SNL Korea’ Season 8
Coupang Play comedy show ‘SNL Korea’ Season 8, which has been setting new popularity records with each episode, turned the weekend night into a zesty frenzy of laughter by showcasing the daring transformation of fourth host Lee Mi-sook.
In episode 4 released on the 18th (Sat.), Lee Mi-sook embodied audacity beyond fiery boldness, fixing attention on herself every time she appeared. With an elegant blonde hairstyle and a suit, she opened with charisma, saying, “It seems people like me just as I am, without pretense,” distilling the candid charm the public loves into the essence of comedy and steering the laughs.
She drew admiration with vividness and easygoing charm, as if watching a live, expanded version of her YouTube channel ‘Sook-seureoun Misook-ssi’. With ‘comedy veteran’ Shin Dong-yeob, she detonated a knife-edge tension at a laundry spot using only glances and touches, while with ‘young husband’ Kim Won-hoon she did not hesitate to engage in impromptu physical contact, taking dead aim at the funny bone.
The highlight was the ‘Lucky Vicky Queen’ character, whose vintage visuals came laced with a torrent of Gen Z slang. In an unpredictable spectacle, even laugh-bomber Kim Gyu-won was flustered by an offensive from Lee Mi-sook that swung freely between sexy and cutesy. Added to that, from the ‘seasoned daughter-in-law’ who makes mother-in-law Lee Su-ji clutch the back of her neck to the big-sister audacity that blows away the midlife blues of father-in-law Jung Sang-hoon with aegyo, she reached the summit of comedy with distinctive variations in performance.
Throwing herself into raw comedy acting for the first time in her career, Lee Mi-sook shared her excitement, calling it “a unique experience of feeling vivid feedback in real time“. Leader Shin Dong-yeob also said, “We exchanged good energy with the crew thanks to the passionate ideas poured out on set,” acknowledging her as a ‘queen of comedy’ beyond a veteran actor.
Meanwhile, this season has been drawing a heated response from viewers by scratching that itch with its signature razor-sharp current-affairs satire. In particular, rookie crew member Ahn Ju-mi on ‘Weekend Update’ is making a splash as an ‘overkill reporter’ who even has anchor Ahn Young-mi on a string, eliciting an explosive reaction that hints at the birth of a ‘second Ji Ye-eun’ and raising expectations for what lies ahead.
Driven by Lee Mi-sook and her radical transformation, ‘SNL Korea’ Season 8, which has heated up South Korea, is available exclusively on Coupang Play. At 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, ‘stage master’ Shin Sung-rok, with 20 years of experience, will appear as the host of episode 5, once again signaling a dopamine explosion.
