Channel A ‘Heart Signal 5’
On “Heart Signal 5,” “catfish” Jung Jun-hyeon shakes up the game.
In episode 2 of Channel A “Heart Signal 5” (directed by Park Cheol-hwan and Kim Hong-gu), aired on the 21st, the six residents who moved into the “Signal House” Park Woo-yeol-Kim Sung-min-Kim Seo-won-Kim Min-ju-Jung Gyuri-Kang Yu-kyung marked day two by revealing their jobs and ages.
Additionally, the “catfish” Jung Jun-hyeon, exuding rugged masculine charm, appeared and foreshadowed a tectonic shift in the love lines. In particular, Jung Gyuri, who had remained at ‘zero votes’ on the first day of move-in, received two in the ‘likability texts,’ confirming mutual interest with Park Woo-yeol and giving viewers a dopamine hit.
On the morning of day two, Park Woo-yeol and Jung Gyuri carried out their promised ‘commute carpool’ and enjoyed a brief date. Handing his phone to Jung Gyuri, Park asked her to tap the navigation destination, and she showed regret, saying, “What should I do? I have to get out in six minutes.” Park replied, “If it is too short, I will drop you at the next stop,” twice changing the destination and showing a ‘fox’ side(?) that sparked butterflies. He went on, “I usually like going for drives,” and flirted, saying, “If there is somewhere you want to go, let us go together,” to which Jung responded, “Good. Let us go see the sea,” promising a trip to the East Sea.
On the evening of day two, the day’s cooks, Kim Seo-won and Kim Min-ju, set to work. Looking up cooking videos, they diligently simmered doenjang stew and, with perfect teamwork, made delicious spicy stir-fried pork. Pleased with how well the dishes turned out, they called in the residents and served a generous dinner. After eating, everyone gathered in the living room to reveal their ages and jobs.
First, Kim Min-ju introduced herself as “a 27-year-old office worker who does marketing work while also preparing to be an announcer.” Next, ‘class president type’ Kim Sung-min surprised everyone by saying, “I am 29, and a general practitioner working in a dermatology clinic.” Jung Gyuri said, “I am a brand director who designs modern hanbok, and I am 29,” drawing a genuine reaction from Kim Sung-min: “Nice to meet you. Buddy~” Kim Seo-won said, “I am a professional model active on fashion show runways, in lookbooks, and at ad shoots, and I am 25,” and the ‘popular guy’ Park Woo-yeol said, “I work at a marketing company, and I am 25,” revealing he is the same age as Kim. The ‘sweep-up girl’ of day one with three votes, Kang Yu-kyung, said, “I am a university student majoring in Korean dance, and I am twenty-three,” then, as the youngest, cutely apologized to everyone with, “I am sorry!” bringing both shock and laughter.
When the twist-filled self-introductions ended, the six residents headed to a nearby wine bar to enjoy a meal. There, Kang Yu-kyung and Park Woo-yeol, who had confirmed mutual interest on the first day, sat facing each other, exchanged subtle glances, and served each other bites. In the midst of this, ‘catfish’ Jung Jun-hyeon appeared before them. Stealing everyone’s gaze with his manly charm, he finished a brief yet strong self-introduction: “I was born in 1994, and I am a lawyer.” Kim Min-ju said, “He felt hard to approach yet gave a comfortable impression,” leaving the door open, and Kang Yu-kyung kept looking his way, saying, “It is a job I had only seen in dramas. I have not had any reason to talk to a lawyer until now.” In response, Park Woo-yeol revealed his honest feelings, “I suddenly had many thoughts. It could become dangerous,” creating tension.
A moment later, after Kang Yu-kyung returned from the restroom, Park Woo-yeol said, “The scent is really nice,” and asked the brand of her perfume. Without hesitation, she held out her wrist, and seeing this, Jung Gyuri gave a bitter smile. At the powerful entrance of the ‘catfish,’ the ‘celebrity prediction panel’ immersed themselves, saying, “As expected, a catfish is a catfish!”, “His appearance is a masculinity-packed ‘tetonam,’ but I think his personality will have a twist.”
After the meal, back at the ‘Signal House,’ the residents sent the day-two ‘likability texts.’ Kim Min-ju texted Kim Sung-min, and Jung Gyuri went straight to Park Woo-yeol, with whom she had ‘carpooled.’ Guided by the ‘fork signal,’ Kang Yu-kyung also chose Park Woo-yeol for the second straight day. Kim Seo-won, who had looked only at Kang on day one, made a twist by texting Kim Min-ju, and ‘catfish’ Jung Jun-hyeon chose Jung Gyuri, with whom conversation had flowed at the wine bar. Kim Sung-min texted Kang Yu-kyung, who was convinced it came from Park Woo-yeol and smiled with excitement. However, the heart of Park Woo-yeol was directed toward Jung Gyuri. The ‘celebrity prediction panel’ was thrown into shock. Kim Eana said, “(Yukyung) thinks that she and Wooyeol have now formed quite a bond,” expressing regret, and Lee Sang-min also sighed, “Yukyung could end it here but cannot, because she thinks Wooyeol sent the text.” Kim Eana added, “Heart Signal is originally a place where not everyone can be happy,” hinting at love lines that will become even more complicated and heightening curiosity for the next broadcast.
Meanwhile, amid this hot interest from viewers at home, ‘Heart Signal 5’ took first place for buzz in the ‘TV Tuesday category’ on the ‘Fun-dex Chart’ for the third week of April, compiled by Good Data Corporation, in its very first week on air, and it also ranked first in the ‘News category,’ fully proving the dignity of the ‘original dating reality show.’
The love lines in the ‘Signal House,’ once again entering a period of upheaval with the appearance of ‘catfish’ Jung Jun-hyeon, will continue in episode 3 of ‘Heart Signal 5,’ airing at 10 p.m. on Tuesday the 28th.
