SBS reality show ‘Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 - You Are My Destiny’
Singer Yook Jung-wan opened up about the practical concerns and sense of emptiness he has been experiencing since moving to Mok-dong, Seoul, for his daughter’s schooling. He relocated for his child’s education, but he candidly confessed that he feels stifled in an environment that does not suit his disposition.
On episode 435 of the SBS reality show ‘Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 - You Are My Destiny’, which aired on the 21st, viewers saw Yook Jung-wan savoring a rare taste of freedom while his wife and daughter were away from home.
That day, Yook said, “It is my first day of freedom in ten years. My wife usually does not go anywhere,” expressing his joy at spending time alone. He continued, “My wife used to be a free-spirited person. I had fantasies when we got married. After having a child and reaching my fifties, I wanted to play in a blues band and have fun making music together,” and added, “But after we got married and had a child, she just became a mom.” In response, Kim Gu-ra hit the mark, saying, “That is your wife’s sacrifice.”

The home shown on the program was also arranged as a thoroughly daughter-centered space, from the study desk to the books. The reason Yook’s family moved from Hongdae to Mok-dong was likewise solely for their daughter’s education.
However, Yook sighed, “To be honest, I feel a bit suffocated.” He admitted, “Since coming to Mok-dong, children’s safety and education are indeed good. But it does not fit my temperament.” He added, “After reveling in freedom in Hongdae, coming to Mok-dong leaves me feeling empty. I feel like I am the only one who is different,” and Kim Sook, watching on, agreed, saying, “Mr. Yook Jung-wan and Mok-dong do not really go together.”
There was also a bittersweet moment concerning his daughter’s academic achievement. When Seo Jang-hoon asked, “You settled in Mok-dong for your child’s studies, but is she good at studying?”, Yook let out another deep sigh. He said, “My child attended an English kindergarten. When she took a placement test to enroll in an English academy afterward, I thought she would at least place in the middle,” trailing off and hinting at results that fell short of expectations. Seeing this, Lee Ji-hye comforted him, saying, “I think we can already tell from your expression. You do not need to say more,” bringing laughter to the studio.
