YouTube channel ‘TEO Teo’ web variety show ‘Salon Drip’

Actor Koo Kyo-hwan, who directed the trailer for the Mise-en-scene Short Film Festival, shared the backstory of casting Kim Tae-ri and Son Seok-gu.

On the 28th, the YouTube channel ‘TEO Teo’ web variety show ‘Salon Drip’ released a video titled ‘Don’t you smell something burning? Motor-equipped Koo’s mouth is on fire.’ On the episode, Koo Kyo-hwan appeared as a guest and shared various stories.

That day, Koo explained how he came to direct the trailer for the 22nd Mise-en-scene Short Film Festival. He said, “After hearing they were looking for a director, I said I could do it well,” and added, “I promised I would bring top stars,” drawing laughter.

He then opened up about the casting process as well. Koo said, “From (Kim) Tae-ri and (Son) Seok-gu, I learned a lot about ‘So that’s how you accept a casting offer.’ They were so cool.”

Regarding Kim Tae-ri, he said, “When I spoke with her on the phone, she burst into laughter and said, ‘Sounds good,’” marveling at her ready acceptance. In contrast, he kept reaching out persistently to Son Seok-gu. He explained, “At 10 p.m., it suddenly occurred to me that I had to cast Seok-gu, so I called right away. I kept calling at 10, 11, and 12.”

He continued, “Seok-gu left a text saying, ‘I just checked. Reach out anytime,’ and the next morning, after seeing it, I called immediately and woke him up. When I sent the script, he read it quickly and said, ‘I’ll do it.’”

At this, Koo said, “That’s so cool. I’m jealous,” expressing admiration for the two actors’ crisp decisions.

Meanwhile, Koo is currently appearing in the JTBC drama ‘Everyone Is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness,’ and the 22nd Mise-en-scene Short Film Festival opens on June 18.
