Comedian Yang Sang-guk opened up about a heartbreaking family story.

On the 29th, the official YouTube channel of tvN ‘You Quiz on the Block’ released a pre-release video titled ‘Second heyday ‘Gimhae Crown Prince’ Yang Sang-guk: a story he shares as he recalls the time he has endured in silence and his father’.

Appearing as a guest that day, Yang first shared his thoughts on appearing on ‘You Quiz’. He said, “Am I a star now? That is what I thought. From someone in our position, going on ‘You Quiz’ at this point means you have to be the person at the center of national attention, a prominent figure, or a revered religious leader,” drawing laughter.

He added, “Being invited by ‘You Quiz’ does not mean I am funny as an entertainer; rather, at this moment, it made me think the whole nation is ‘watching me’.”

Yang then shifted the tone and spoke about his late father. He recalled, “It was a funeral I still cannot imagine. My father passed away, but my mother had COVID, so she went into isolation. My mother could not see the funeral of the husband she had lived with all her life. My older brother was also on a business trip in the United States.”

He continued, “Handling my father’s funeral alone was truly hard,” and “What still remains in my heart is that, on his final journey, my father was wrapped in a plastic pouch; it hurt me so much. That I could not even dress him in a shroud…” choking up as he spoke.
