Singer Sam Smith is reported to have gotten engaged to their same-sex partner, fashion designer Christian Cowan.

According to the U.S. entertainment outlet Page Six on the 5th, the two have been dating for more than three years, and their engagement was spotted as they attended the 2026 Met Gala together on the 4th (local time). They were reportedly seen discussing the engagement at the Mark Hotel in New York before stepping onto the red carpet.

That day, Cowan presented a coordinated couple look with Sam Smith in a black couture outfit he had designed himself, inspired by Erte (Erte). In particular, a large square yellow diamond ring on his finger, said to be from Cartier, drew attention.

A source said, “It is understood that the engagement took place privately,” and added, “The two looked very happy and are deeply in love.”

Sam Smith later showed affection by unveiling their outfits on social media. Quoting Cowan, they explained, “We were inspired by the artistic world of Erte and the glamour of the 1920s. A look imbued with 255,000 crystals and beads and 2,000 hours of handwork,” and added, “This outfit is an homage to the master of fashion illustration and to my love.”

Meanwhile, Sam Smith and Cowan have steadily continued their relationship since dating rumors emerged in December 2022.
