The SF film ‘The Last Human’, starring Jo Sung-ha, has become a hot topic in Chungmuro after being selected for ‘Cannes Fantastic 7’ and invited to the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) in July.
The SF film ‘The Last Human’ (directed by Heo Geon), led by Jo Sung-ha, whose acting fully lives up to his reputation, has been selected for the 2026 ‘Cannes Fantastic 7’ and will debut on the global stage.
‘Cannes Fantastic 7’ is a program organized by the Cannes Film Market and the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival to invigorate the fantastic genre film industry, selecting one project each year from seven international festivals that they find most noteworthy and presenting them to film professionals worldwide.
With this selection by BIFAN, the film ‘The Last Human’ will automatically advance to the Cannes Film Market in May, gaining a pitching opportunity before global investors and producers.

It is also scheduled to meet domestic audiences as an official selection of the 30th BIFAN, which will be held across Bucheon from July 2 to 12.
Set on Earth where living organisms have vanished due to air pollution, the film ‘The Last Human’ follows the biotechnologist ‘Dae-seung (played by Jo Sung-ha)’, who struggles within the closed confines of an air-raid shelter to turn his daughter into a new type of human capable of surviving the external environment.

In this work, Jo Sung-ha anchors the core of a classical SF narrative as the lead, maximizing immersion. Incorporating cutting-edge technological attempts such as artificial intelligence (AI) and visual effects (VFX), ‘The Last Human’ is raising expectations that Jo Sung-ha’s distinctive, deeply felt emotional performance and weighty presence will blend with technical polish to produce overwhelming synergy.
Jo Sung-ha is currently filming the SBS drama ‘Seungsan Isseumnida’ in the role of Gil Seung-san, and he is also slated to appear on stage in the play ‘Banya Ajae’ at the National Theater of Korea Haeoreum Theater from May 22 to 31, drawing the attention of the public and the industry to his unstoppable march that extends beyond the big and small screens to the theatrical stage.
