Director Cho Nam-Hyeong of the OTT platform Tving original ‘Becoming a Legend as a Cookhouse Soldier’ cited ‘his gaze’ as the reason for casting Park Ji-hoon.
At the production presentation for ‘Becoming a Legend as a Cookhouse Soldier’ (script by Choi Ryong, directed by Cho Nam-Hyeong) held on the afternoon of the 6th at the Pullman Ambassador Seoul East Pole in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, when asked why he cast Park Ji-hoon, Cho said, “I came to know Park Ji-hoon through ‘Weak Hero’,” and explained, “I cast him because his eyes were really good.”
Cho added, “The character ‘Kang Seong-Jae’ played by Park Ji-hoon, although at first after enlisting he is unfamiliar with military life and somewhat clumsy, has inner resolve and moves forward clearly and diligently toward his goals,” and said, “I decided to cast him because I thought he is an actor with eyes that can express those aspects well.”
Regarding how it differs from the original webtoon, he said, “The original was very popular, was it not. The biggest difference is that, because it is a drama, rather than seeing it in drawings, the expressions of taste are more vivid and more appetizing dishes appear; I think that is the distinction.”
‘Becoming a Legend as a Cookhouse Soldier’ is a military cooking fantasy drama that depicts Private Kang Seong-Jae (Park Ji-hoon), who carries a chef's knife instead of a rifle and wears an apron instead of a cartridge belt, being reborn as a ‘legendary cookhouse soldier’. It is scheduled to premiere on Tving and tvN at 8:50 p.m. on the 11th.
