The 27th Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF)
The organizing committee of the 27th Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF) selected ‘The Slowly Vanishing Night’ by directors Ezequiel Salinas·Ramiro Sonzini for the Grand Prize in the International Competition.
On the 5th, an awards ceremony was held at the Samsung Culture Center of Jeonbuk National University to present honors across a total of 37 categories, including 19 from the Jeonju International Film Festival and 18 from the Jeonju Project.
The Grand Prize in the International Competition went, by unanimous decision of the jury, to ‘The Slowly Vanishing Night’ by Ezequiel Salinas·Ramiro Sonzini. Best Film went to Jack Owen·Kevin Walker’s ‘Chronovisor’, and the Jury Prize to Vytautas Katkus’s ‘The Visitor’. Nagao Hiromichi’s ‘Michiyuki: The Voice of Time’ received a Special Mention from the jury.
In the Korean Competition, Lee Seon-yeon’s ‘The Summer We Let Pass’ took the Grand Prize. The Acting Award was shared by Gi Jin-woo of ‘Sleepless Night’ and Yeo Dae-hyeon of ‘Spending the Same Season’, in recognition of their performances. The Grand Prize in the Korean Short Competition went to Tae Ji-won’s ‘Touch, Tock’.
Awards for the ‘Jeonju Project’, which supports the practical foundations of film production, and for the special sections were also presented. Kim Myeon-woo’s ‘Revival’ won both the Documentary Award and the Korean Competition Jury Special Award, taking two honors.
Within the Jeonju Project, Cho Hanna’s ‘She’ and Choi Jung-eun’s ‘Quiet Legacy’ received the Jeonju Film Studio Award. The ‘Jeonju Cast Award’, which offers $7,500 (10,000,000 KRW) in prize money and a casting option, went to Lee Da-young’s ‘We Meet Again’.
Ezequiel Salinas said, “One reason a film festival is beautiful is that films on different scales can gather, share stories, and have fun,” adding, “It was made on a small scale, but within those difficulties we loved watching and making films so much that everything became possible.”
Organizing Committee Chair Woo Beom-gi said, “This stage is a gathering of the passion of creators who pondered for a long time and did not give up until the end,” adding, “Congratulations to everyone who will receive today’s honors.”
The 27th Jeonju International Film Festival continues through the 8th across Film Street and throughout Jeonju.
