The musical ‘Stravinsky’ announces a June remount, returning after one year with a deeper, more refined staging.
Producer Showplay stated today, the 6th, “The musical ‘Stravinsky’ will be revived from June 30 to September 13 at Yes24 Art One Hall 2.” It then revealed the cast via its official social media, and on the 5th released a teaser video, heightening anticipation for the production.
The musical ‘Stravinsky’ is the final installment of Showplay’s three-part biographical musical project following ‘Nijinsky’ and ‘Diaghilev’. It depicts the conflict and reconciliation between composer Igor Stravinsky, called the ‘Tsar of modern music’, and his longtime friend Shum.
Set in Paris, France in the 1900s, and unlike the previous works that unfolded around the Ballets Russes, it shines a light on figures after their golden age. In doing so, it offers a fresh perspective while organically linking the characters and events that run through the series, adding density to the narrative. In addition, familiar melodies spanning the three works embody the perfection the three artists pursued, bringing the biographical musical trilogy to a close.
At its 2025 premiere, the delicate movements of the actors intertwined with performances by two pianists on stage, earning praise as a new form of performance not previously seen. As a result, it sold out day after day and achieved box office success.
Returning for a remount after one year, this production meets audiences again with a higher level of polish. In particular, it signals that the combined performance of four pianos, created by actors and pianists who left a strong impression in the premiere, will come together in one place to overwhelm the audience.
The remount features Sung Tae-jun, Moon Kyung-cho, and Lim Jun-hyuk as Stravinsky, with Seo Young-taek returning as Stravinsky’s longtime friend Shum. The four actors are expected to lead the work once again with the nuanced acting and rich expressiveness they showed in the premiere. In addition, Yang Ji-won, Ban Jeong-mo, and Park Sun-young newly join, and with their distinct personalities and interpretations, they are expected to render the characters’ narratives even more richly.
Park Sun-young draws attention by taking on both Stravinsky and Shum. As the only actor to have participated in all three works of Showplay’s biographical musical project, she will again step onto the stage in the same roles in this production, continuing the characters’ narratives with greater depth. Furthermore, she has signaled a new transformation by attempting, for the first time in the series, a dual role.
The relationships and emotional arcs between the two characters that the returning and newly joined actors will create, along with Park Sun-young’s dual role, are expected to complete a stage that blends familiarity and novelty.
The first ticket release for the musical ‘Stravinsky’ will open via Yes24 Ticket. From opening day, June 30, through July 5 is the preview period, during which all seats can be reserved at a 30% discount.
