Singer Hong Ji-yoon proved on air the commanding poise of a third-generation King of Singers, forged through ‘K-Arirang’.

With a peerless voice that resonates with the beauty and depths of Korea, Hong Ji-yoon vividly etched the dazzling poise of a ‘third-generation reigning King of Singers’.

On the 5th, Hong Ji-yoon stepped into a one-on-one on-site call-out in the third main round of MBN variety program ‘2026 Korea-Japan King of Singers Match’.

With the first and second rounds both ending in draws and taut tension in the air, Hong Ji-yoon said, “We have to press ahead on momentum,” steeling her resolve. She further boosted morale among slightly tense teammates by leading a rousing fighting cheer, revealing firm determination to win.

That day, she turned heads from the start in an outfit with a Taegeukgi motif symbolizing the Republic of Korea. She paired a sleeveless top reflecting the lines of traditional hanbok with pants elegantly embroidered with a Taegeuk pattern, and completed a look that was both classic and refined with a hair ornament reinterpreting the jokduri.

Hong Ji-yoon said, “If I were to stand on the ‘Korea-Japan King of Singers Match’ stage, I really wanted to show the true beauty of Korea, and the time has finally come,” and staged a deft mashup that wove together the traditional folk song ‘Arirang’ and Yoo Ji-na’s ‘Sseurirang’.

Against a backdrop of ink-wash landscapes, props such as a flower palanquin, a samulnori ensemble, and traditional fans blended to stir emotion from the outset. With the depth and solidity befitting a classical Korean music major, she poured out ‘Arirang’, overwhelming the audience, then reappeared riding the flower palanquin to cleverly flip the mood. In particular, her delivery that moved fluidly between Korean and Japanese, along with a performance that attentively embraced the sentiments of both countries, pushed the completeness of the stage to its peak.

Judge Jung Soo-ra lauded Hong Ji-yoon, saying, “From the No. 1 position, she carried out her role perfectly. It was truly beautiful to see performances across the stage that considered the other country,” and added, “A superb stage that showed everything from the rough energy unique to pansori to deep emotion.”

Amid a flood of rave reviews, Hong Ji-yoon clinched an overwhelming victory over competitor Natalia D, once again proving the prowess of a king of singers.
