Actor Kang Dong-won takes on the challenge of being an idol.
The production briefing for the comedy film ‘Wild Thing’ (produced by About Film) was held on the morning of the 7th at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University Entrance in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. In attendance were director Son Jae-gon, who directed the film, along with lead actors Kang Dong-won, Um Tae-goo, Park Ji-hyun, and Oh Jung-se.
For Kang Dong-won, who has an ‘idol’ appearance, this is his first film in which he officially plays an ‘idol’ role. Kang said, “I had always thought being an idol must be very hard,” adding, “I came to respect them while making this project.”
Kang said, “A firmly closed ending. Not an open ending. I liked that point,” and, “I really liked the process of running toward the ending.”
‘Wild Thing’ is a wild comedy that depicts the process by which ‘Triangle,’ a three-member co-ed dance group that once swept the music scene but disbanded due to an unexpected incident, returns to the stage for a comeback after more than 20 years. Kang Dong-won, Um Tae-goo, and Park Ji-hyun play Triangle members, while Oh Jung-se appears as a ballad singer, signaling a ‘drastic transformation’.
Kang plays Hwang Hyun-woo, an idol who was riding high as the leader of Triangle and a ‘dance machine’. Um Tae-goo plays the youngest whirlwind rapper Gu Sang-gu, whose rap skills are poor but whose passion overflows, and Park Ji-hyun portrays center Byun Do-mi with absolute charm. Oh Jung-se takes on Seong-gon, a balladeer who long remained a perennial No. 2 after being overshadowed by Triangle, delivering comic acting.
Director Son, who took the megaphone, debuted with ‘A Sweet, Savage Couple’ in 2006 and directed ‘No Harm’ (2020). The new ‘Wild Thing’ is his first work in about six years.
‘Wild Thing’ has a running time of 107 minutes and is rated for ages 12 and up. Lotte Entertainment is distributing it, and it opens on June 3.
