Yano Shiho sheds tears as she remembers her late father-in-law.
On Friday, May 8, KBS 2 ‘New Release Pyeonstaurant’ (hereafter ‘Pyeonstaurant’) will reveal the cooking routine of Japanese top model Yano Shiho, wife of ‘Ajosshi’ Chu Sung-hoon and mother of the nation's niece, Sarang. In the process, Yano Shiho opens up about memories of her father-in-law, who suddenly passed away in April 2023, and about the sorrow and changes that the farewell brought to the Yano Shiho family.
In the VCR to be shown that day, Yano Shiho took on the challenge of making chueotang (loach soup). As it was Japan's ‘Married Couple's Day’ on the day of filming, she decided to make a special restorative dish for her husband, Chu Sung-hoon, who is enjoying a second heyday and is busier than anyone these days. While everyone worried, saying, “You're really going to make chueotang yourself, which even we find difficult to make?”, the Japanese daughter-in-law Yano Shiho, who had written down her mother-in-law's recipe, set out to make it properly; the spectacular cooking process will be revealed on the main broadcast of ‘Pyeonstaurant’.

She then cautiously began to explain another reason for preparing the special food with such care: “April is the month when my father-in-law passed away, so it has meaning for our family. Especially during this period, Chu Sung-hoon's heart must be having a very hard time.” The father of Chu Sung-hoon, familiar to many viewers, died suddenly of cardiac arrest in April 2023. Yano Shiho shared her memory of that day: “He passed away so suddenly. By the time we rushed over after receiving the call, he had already passed.”
She continued, “Sarang cried as if collapsing. The trauma continued for about two years,” revealing the hard time Sarang went through. She added, “It was truly a huge shock to Chu Sung-hoon as well,” and, “After Father passed away, a major turning point came in my husband's life. The person changed in every direction.” She even shed tears as she spoke about her husband. What changes Chu Sung-hoon went through, how his life has altered as seen by his wife Yano Shiho, and the real reason Yano Shiho was brought to tears can be found on ‘Pyeonstaurant’. It is also said that Chu Sung-hoon's honest feelings will be revealed that day, drawing attention.
