‘The 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards

As actor Im Soo-jung held the Baeksang trophy in her arms, she thought of her late mother.

At the ‘The 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards’ held on the 8th at COEX D Hall in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, the Best Supporting Actress in the Television category went to Im Soo-jung for her overwhelming performance in ‘Fine: Bumpkins’.

Taking the stage, Im Soo-jung spoke about a recent personal hardship and grew teary-eyed. She began, “It has been a little over four months since my mother became a star in the sky,” and confessed, “As time has passed, it has weighed on my heart that I did not reach out often because I said I was busy, and the sorrow deepened. I spent days when it felt as if my world had briefly stopped.”

She continued, “I kept finding myself just standing still, but receiving this award today feels like my mom is telling me ‘Do not do that,’ and ‘Do not stay frozen; move forward,’” and added, “If I have been of use as an actor, it has been thanks to the kind heart and beautiful sensitivity I inherited from my mom. I will try to live diligently until we meet again someday.” Her heartfelt words brought a hush over the room.

In ‘Fine: Bumpkins’, Im Soo-jung was praised for delicately depicting the character’s complex emotional arc and enhancing the work’s completeness. Rising above sorrow, her sincere acceptance speech drew warm applause and encouragement from fellow actors and the audience.
