Singer and actor Kim Junsu took home the Acting Award in the Musical category at the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards.
Palm Tree Island stated on the 8th, “Kim Junsu won the Acting Award in the Musical category at the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards, held at COEX Hall D in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, for the musical ‘Beetlejuice’.” Being named the inaugural recipient in the musical category at the Baeksang Arts Awards, a ceremony representing the nation’s popular culture and arts, once again proved Kim Junsu’s unrivaled presence in the musical world.
Last year, through the musical ‘Beetlejuice’, Kim Junsu took on the black comedy genre for the first time since his debut, unveiling a new acting transformation. He made the mischievous yet uncanny demon ‘Beetlejuice’ uniquely his own, maximizing the character’s appeal, and earned praise for heightening the production’s immersion with his sly comic acting and delicate expressiveness.
Honored with the award, Kim Junsu began by saying, “I truly did not expect to receive this, so I was not prepared at all,” and added, “I was grateful just to be able to attend the Baeksang Arts Awards, which I usually only watch on TV, thanks to the newly established musical category this year, and I am honored to receive such a meaningful award.”
He continued, “I was happy just to be in the same place as the fellow nominees, and I feel the weight of this award,” adding, “I take this as an encouragement to strive further, and I will continue to repay with good acting and singing.”
This win is a meaningful achievement that reaffirms the solid filmography Kim Junsu has built as a musical actor, his steady pursuit of challenges, and his singular presence. In particular, being named the first Acting Award recipient in the newly established musical category at this year’s Baeksang Arts Awards adds to its symbolism and weight.
With wide-ranging versatility across genres, Kim Junsu has built his own color in every production, and through this award he has further solidified his standing as a musical actor representing South Korea. Continuing to push boundaries as a musical performer, he is currently meeting audiences with ‘Death Note’, and recently announced that he has been cast in ‘Dracula’, signaling a busy slate in the second half of the year.
On June 2, Kim Junsu will release his fifth full-length album ‘GRAVITY(Gravity)’ and also return to his main profession as a singer.
