Actor Ryu Seung-ryong received the Grand Prize at the Baeksang Arts Awards.
On the 8th, at COEX D Hall in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, at the ‘62nd Baeksang Arts Awards’, Ryu Seung-ryong won the Grand Prize in the Television category for JTBC’s “The Story of Manager Kim, Who Works at a Large Company and Owns a Home in Seoul” (hereinafter “Manager Kim’s Story”).
Taking the stage, Ryu Seung-ryong began, “Nanta, Seoul Jaga Manager Kim, fine, thank you.” He said, “Naksu, the name itself means ‘falling water.’ I thought everything would be over once that water fell, but that water flows to become a brook, a river, and then it runs to the sea,” adding, “What allowed me to become Kim Naksu, who flows there, was my (in the drama) wife Hajin’s one warm line, ‘You worked hard, Manager Kim.’”
Ryu said, “To our viewers who did not turn away from the journey of failure and responded warmly and sensitively, I offer my sincere thanks.” Like Naksu in the drama, he told himself, “Seung-ryong, good job,” and concluded his remarks with, “To every Naksu across the country. Be happy.”
In ‘Manager Kim’s Story’, where he played ‘Kim Naksu’, a department manager at a large corporation, Ryu Seung-ryong was praised for his detailed portrayal of the ups and downs of a middle-aged breadwinner. The series topped the domestic Netflix TOP10 series rankings immediately after its release.
In 2013, at the 49th Baeksang Arts Awards, Ryu Seung-ryong received the Grand Prize in film for ‘Miracle in Cell No. 7’. With this Television category Grand Prize, he has joined the ranks of actors who have won the Baeksang Grand Prize in both divisions.
