Actor Park Jung-min won Best Actor in Film at the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards for the film ‘Face’. He has achieved the rare feat of capturing all three Baeksang film acting honors (Newcomer, Supporting, and Best Actor) on a five-year cycle.
On the 8th, Park attended the ‘62nd Baeksang Arts Awards with Gucci’ held at COEX Hall D in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and took home the trophy. The nominees for Best Actor (Film) were Koo Kyo-hwan (‘If We’), Yoo Hae-jin (‘The Man Who Lives with the King’), Lee Byung-hun (‘Cannot Be Helped’), Hong Kyung (‘Good News’), and Park Jung-min (‘Face’).
Park Jung-min, who played dual roles in ‘Face’, was named the winner.
Taking the stage, Park said, “I had been saying, ‘What should I even say if I end up receiving an award while sitting?’ I did not expect to receive it, so nothing is prepared,” and then asked with a laugh, “Why did you give me something like this?”
He continued, “For several years I attended award ceremonies and kept failing to win. I even earned the nickname ‘the king without trophies,’ but receiving this makes me think I might start getting attached to awards,” and added, “From now on, I will work hard at acting with awards in mind.”
After thanking colleagues including director Yeon Sang-ho and actor Shin Hyun-bin, Park said, “My mother told me to just sit nicely at the ceremony and come back, but I ended up winning. I also thank my father.” He added, “I had a big fight with my younger sibling, and I ask for forgiveness. Please forgive me just this once. I love my niece/nephew.”
Park debuted in 2011 with ‘The Watchman’ and has appeared in works including ‘Dongju’, ‘Deliver Us from Evil’, and ‘Escape’. Five years after his debut, in June 2016 at the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards, he won Best New Actor in Film for his portrayal of Song Mong-gyu in ‘Dongju’. At the time, he said, “I am embarrassed to be receiving this award five years after my debut.”
Five years later, in May 2021 at the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards, he won Best Supporting Actor in Film for his role as Yui in ‘Deliver Us from Evil’.
