On ‘My Hometown at 6,’ Miss Kim visited a warm village in Andong for Parents Day and perfectly captured the hearts of the seniors.

On the May 8 broadcast of KBS1 ‘My Hometown at 6,’ the program followed Miss Kim, a would-be village chief, as she visited Geumso Village in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, to share the elders’ points of pride.

That day, Miss Kim said, “I went to a very special celebration for Parents Day,” appearing while conveying the village’s festive mood. By approaching the elders warmly and steering the conversations skillfully, she earned the label ‘pro would-be village chief’ after only two appearances.

The village elders gave Miss Kim an enthusiastic welcome with a lively samulnori performance. In response to the elders saying, “Welcome. Our village really needed a guest singer right now,” Miss Kim wittily asked, “If I am the guest singer, what about the appearance fee?” Showing the bravado and presence befitting the ‘Queen of Events,’ she turned the scene into a sea of laughter from the start.

In Geumso Village, a clan village of the Yecheon Im lineage, a filial-piety banquet for elder clan members was underway for Parents Day. With her trademark exuberance and charm, Miss Kim eased the elders’ nerves and heightened the emotion of the celebration. Her signature honeyed voice took the excitement to its peak, gifting the elders unforgettable memories.

When the village specialtiesAndongpo and hemp dishes available only in the Industrial Hemp Regulation-Free Zonewere introduced, Miss Kim drew hearty laughs from viewers with the offbeat question, “If I eat this, I will not get arrested, right?” In addition, her innocent reaction as she was flustered by the unfamiliar richness of hemp oil brought smiles to viewers.

The star on site that day was not only Miss Kim. The elders, who staged an impromptu dance party with enthusiasm on par with hers, drew attention by saying, “Miss Kim’s father was really good,” mentioning the distinct presence of her father who appeared on the previous broadcast. They added warmth by extending a kind invitation: “Please be sure to come visit Geumso Village next time.”

Although the village was filled with lively laughter, there was deep pain beneath the surface. The aftermath of the nearby Uiseong wildfire, which caused extensive damage last year, had reached Geumso Village as well.
