Actor Im Soo-jung, who delivered an impressive performance in ‘Fine: The Country Bumpkins’, proved her unrivaled acting depth by winning Best Supporting Actress in the television category at ‘The 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards’.
At ‘The 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards with Gucci’ (hereafter, ‘Baeksang Arts Awards’) held on the 8th, Im Soo-jung took home Best Supporting Actress in the television category for the Disney+ original series ‘Fine: The Country Bumpkins’, affirming her singular acting prowess.
In ‘Fine: The Country Bumpkins’, Im Soo-jung played Yang Jeong-suk, the matriarch of Heungbaek Industries, captivating viewers with a new face she had not shown before. Im completed the character of Yang Jeong-suk, who harbors a complex inner world that rarely reveals her desires and ambition, in her own colors, emanating a powerful presence through a densely layered performance that moved between elegance and an icy charisma. By delicately rendering shifts from greed to anxiety to calculation, she amplified the drama’s tension and meticulously built the character’s intricate emotional arc, maximizing her dimensionality.
With refined, dignified diction, unwavering eyes, and restrained facial acting, she perfected Yang Jeong-suk’s unique aura. Accepting Best Supporting Actress in the television category, Im Soo-jung said, “The Yang Jeong-suk I played was a character that was a new challenge for me as well. She continued, “On a personal note, my steps to be here today were not entirely light. It has been about four months since my mother became a star in the sky, and as time passed, the words I could not say remained in my heart and the sorrow deepened,” and added, “But receiving this award today felt like my mother was telling me not to stand still but to move forward. Until the day I meet her again, I will strive to live well as an actor.”
Through her ‘Baeksang Arts Awards’ win, Im Soo-jung has added another meaningful milestone. Recently, in tvN’s ‘How to Become a Building Owner in Korea’, she played Kim Seon, portraying the transformation of an ordinary housewife who finds herself at the center of events and showcasing a powerful acting shift.
