Pop star Dua Lipa has filed a right of publicity and copyright infringement lawsuit in the United States against Samsung Electronics.
On the 8th (local time), according to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Dua Lipa filed a damages claim against Samsung Electronics and its U.S. affiliate, Samsung Electronics America.
According to the complaint, her side claims that Samsung inserted her image on the front of TV product packaging without authorization and sold the products across the United States. The product at issue is known as the Samsung Crystal UHD TV series.

Her side explained that the photo is an image registered with the U.S. copyright office under the title ‘Dua Lipa - Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024’. They pointed out that it was used commercially without a license agreement or separate permission.
They also argued that, despite having no official collaboration with Samsung Electronics, consumers could have been misled into thinking she was an advertising model or that there was a collaboration product.
Her side stated, “We have applied strict standards to brand collaborations,” and “We would not have agreed to advertising on the packaging of mass-market consumer goods.”
They further asserted that Samsung leveraged her image and reputation to drive product sales, constituting false advertising and false endorsement. They added that, although they demanded in June last year that sales be halted and the right-of-publicity infringement cease, sales continued without any particular action.
Her side asked the court to prohibit sales of the infringing products and to award damages, punitive damages, and legal fees, with the claimed amount reported to be at least $15 million (22 billion KRW).
