Broadcast scene from ‘Brave New World’
Actor Kim Gye-rim, following the intensity of ‘Scarecrow’, has transformed into the role of the little-known actress Gwak Eun-a in the rom-com ‘Brave New World’.
In SBS’s FridaySaturday drama ‘Brave New World’ (written by Kang Hyun-ju / directed by Han Tae-seop), which premiered on the 8th, Kim Gye-rim takes on the role of ‘Gwak Eun-a’, a colleague of the heroine Shin Seori (Lim Ji-yeon) and her best friend of ten years, marking the start of an active run.
The drama ‘Brave New World’ is a romantic comedy like a high-stakes war between the unknown actress Shin Seori, who turns ‘vicious’ after being possessed by the soul of a notorious Joseon-era femme fatale, and the ‘vicious chaebol’ Cha Segye, dubbed a monster born of capitalism. Kim Gye-rim plays ‘Gwak Eun-a’, a comrade who has endured nameless bit-part lives such as slave and court lady alongside Seori.
In the first episode, Kim Gye-rim compellingly portrayed a ‘real-life friend’ who is flustered yet genuinely worried as she watches Seori suddenly behave like a different person on a palace historical-drama set. She teases Seori, who speaks in a Joseon-era manner, by asking why she keeps talking like someone from that period, yet is quickly moved by Seori becoming more self-assured, adding vitality to the show with a bright, bouncy performance.
Kim Gye-rim recently left a powerful impression as Mi-yeon, a surviving victim of a serial murder case, in the ENA drama ‘Scarecrow’. She has completely shed the heavy image of her previous work, and in ‘Brave New World’ she vividly presents the realistic face of a bit-part actor with a sunny charm, capturing viewers’ attention.
Her work beyond the screen is also red-hot. Having won the ‘2025 46th Seoul Theater Festival Acting Award’ for the play ‘Place’, drawing notice from the theater community, Kim Gye-rim is meeting audiences in the play ‘My Star’, which opened on the 2nd, as ‘Megu’, a high school student who is the daughter of a rice-farming family and rough yet warm at heart. Distinct from her realistic on-screen portrayals, she conveys the character’s pure energy with sincerity, earning enthusiastic reviews from audiences.
There is growing anticipation for what new hues of character Kim Gye-rim, who continues to broaden her acting spectrum through meticulous character analysis in every role, will realize through ‘Brave New World’.
SBS’s ‘Brave New World’, featuring Kim Gye-rim, airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 p.m.
