Actor Kang Dong-won has even mastered the Nike routine, flaunting the seasoned chops of a “45-year-old idol.”

On the 12th, the team behind the film “Wild Sing” (directed by Son Jae-gon) released photos capturing “Hyun-woo” (Kang Dong-won) on stage, the leader and dance machine of the in-film trio “Triangle.”

“Wild Sing” is a comedy about “Triangle,” a three-member coed dance group that once swept the music scene but disbanded overnight after an unexpected incident, as they embark on a reckless challenge to seize a comeback opportunity 20 years later.

In the released stills, Kang Dong-won pulls off styling steeped in early-2000s hip street vibes and a daring blunt-bridge haircut, showcasing singular visuals befitting “the original face genius.” Under dazzling lights, he pairs goggles perched on his head, gloves on his hands, and oversized wide pantstrend items of the timewith deft flair, drawing the eye. His deep gaze toward the audience projects the aura of an “entry-fairy” who will shake fans to their core, while his commanding physique that fills the screen is set to captivate moviegoers.

Most striking of all is the b-boying skill Kang Dong-won honed for the role. After five months of intensive choreography practice, he delivers a fierce stage by executing powerful moves himself, from the fluid lines that flow from his long limbs to a demanding one-handed “freeze.” At a production briefing held on May 7, Kang remarked, “Preparing it myself made me newly realize how remarkable idols are. This project made me respect them even more,” sharing his distinct reflections. Choreographer Yang Uk, who oversaw the performances in the film, praised him, saying, “He knows exactly what makes dance appealing. In particular, thanks to his overwhelming physique, even the slightest cue is enough for him to grasp and express it right away, which was impressive.”

From visuals to performance, the all-around, fan-converting “entry-fairy” Kang Dong-won can be seen in “Wild Sing,” which opens on June 3.
