Pilates instructor and broadcaster Yang Jung-won

All personnel in the investigative and criminal lines at Gangnam Police Station, which came under suspicion of receiving money and valuables and of covering up a fraud case involving broadcaster Yang Jung-won, have been replaced.

On the 12th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced regular superintendent-level personnel appointments for the first half of 2026. According to this, the new head of Investigation Division 1 at Gangnam Station will be Superintendent Son Jae-man, transferred from the North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency, while Investigation Divisions 2 and 3 will be headed by Superintendents Yoo Min-jae and Chae Myeong-cheol, transferred from the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency, respectively.

Earlier, after allegations of investigative misconduct emerged at Gangnam Station, the police had signaled ‘rotational appointments’ for superintendents and inspectors working in investigative departments.

Gangnam Station's Investigation Divisions 1 and 2 had been handling cases in which, in 2024, Yang Jung-won was repeatedly sued by franchise owners of a Pilates academy brand on charges including fraud.

The franchisees claim they were deceived by recruitment promotional materials that, along with her detailed profile, promised to share her know-how for running the academy.

In the process, indications emerged that Yang Jung-won's husband, Mr. Lee, known as wealthy, provided entertainment to Inspector A, who was the team leader of Investigation Division 1 at Gangnam Station, and requested that the investigation into his wife be quashed; as a result, the officers involved have been relieved of duty or are under inspection.

The criminal line was also replaced, with the head of Criminal Division 1 at Gangseo Police Station moving to head Division 1 at Gangnam, and the head of the Criminal Division at Yongsan Police Station coming in to head Division 2.
