A still from the film ‘The Mysterious Confectionery Jeoncheondang’.
Actors Ra Mi-ran and Lee Re spoke about the exceptional efforts they made to achieve a high degree of resemblance to the original characters.
On the afternoon of the 13th, at the press distribution screening for the film ‘The Mysterious Confectionery Jeoncheondang’ held at Megabox COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, director Park Bong-seop and lead actors Ra Mi-ran and Lee Re attended and shared behind-the-scenes stories from the production. In particular, the two actors’ striking transformations that brought the original animation’s characters into real life drew attention.
Regarding the praise for her resemblance, Ra Mi-ran asked back, “Did people really say that?”, and candidly shared, “In fact, I thought there would be a disconnect between the outward appearance of Hongja in the animation and myself. I also worried a lot about whether I could exude that kind of aura.” She continued, “However, with the help of the staff, the moment the white hair went up, I felt a certainty that said ‘This works’,” and added, “Appearance is important, but I approached it as a kind of challenge, thinking that if I could encompass the character through the image I project or through acting, it would be fully achievable.” She further said, “I kept the white hair throughout filming and worked in good spirits. I enjoyed it, thinking, when would I ever get to have an experience like this again.”
Lee Re, who plays Yomi, also expressed satisfaction with the bold styling. Lee said, “When I first read the script, there were aspects I could not quite picture, but I finally felt them as I went through hair and makeup. There were many devices that allowed me to become Yomi without having to try too hard.” She went on, “Outfits or a blunt bob style I had never once tried in my life were always delightful and fun experiences for me,” and smiled, “I am truly happy to hear praise that the resemblance is high.”
