‘Azure Spring’ broadcast capture
Actor Kang Sang-jun showcased the textbook ‘tsundere’, making hearts skip a beat with an extraordinary warmth hidden behind cool, aloof moments in the drama.
In episode 2 of the webtoon-based drama ‘Azure Spring’, which aired on the 12th, Kang Sang-jun took on the role of the mysterious male diver ‘Yoon Deok-hyun’, asserting his presence with a surprising kindness that reaches out at decisive moments despite an indifferent exterior.
On the broadcast, Deok-hyun left a strong impression by going into the sea and rescuing Anna (played by Kim Ye-rim) when she was in danger. Then, the sight of him carefully cooking seaweed abalone porridge in a cauldron for Anna, who had swallowed seawater, heightened excitement among viewers. “If I do not look after you, you will go back into the sea and make trouble again, right?” he said curtly as he pushed over the bowl of porridge, yet inside it lay Deok-hyun’s deep consideration to restore Anna’s energy with a nourishing dish favored by the haenyeo.
Kang Sang-jun’s reversal charm did not end there. The moment when he, usually razor-edged, was surrounded by cats and broke into a bright smile was unfamiliar yet fatal enough to fluster not only Anna but also viewers. In particular, even in front of a jealous Sujeong (Go Joo-hee), he calmly admitted, “(for Anna) I made porridge,” creating a subtle mood that added to the fun of the episode.
What moved viewers most was Deok-hyun’s weighty consolation. To Anna, who blamed herself that her life was ruined because she could no longer swim, Deok-hyun offered a plain reassurance: “Does life fall apart because you cannot swim? Half the people in the world cannot swim. For now, you are simply my landlord. No problem at all.” This, combined with Kang Sang-jun’s steady acting tone and deep gaze, left an even stronger afterglow.
Toward the end of the episode, Deok-hyun, who had said he had no knack for teaching, transformed into Anna’s diving mentor and led Spartan-style training, heightening expectations for changes in their relationship. From on-land drills to breath-holding practice, he pushed Anna hard, yet when he tasted the seafood ramen aglio e olio that Anna had made, his small nod brought a warm smile.
In the ending, Deok-hyun stood by the beach and, turning to Anna, declared, “We should go in, into the water,” sending a firm gaze that pushed curiosity about the healing and growth arc he will draw with Anna to its peak. All eyes are on Kang Sang-jun’s upcoming performance, as he fully melts into the character and exudes an irreplaceable charm.
