TWICE member Jeongyeon teared up, saying to her older sister, actor Gong Seung-yeon, “I am so happy that you are doing well these days.”
The tvN variety program ‘You Quiz on the Block’ released on the 6th a guest preview for episode 342 announcing the appearance of Gong Seung-yeon. The episode featuring Gong Seung-yeon will air on the 20th.
In the teaser video, Gong Seung-yeon, regarding her appearance in the MBC Friday-Saturday drama ‘21st Century Grand Royal Consort’, said, “I bragged to my younger sister. TWICE has not even appeared yet.”
In the subsequent interview with Jeongyeon, she said, “I am so happy that my older sister is doing well these days,” and “I get choked up because it was a time when I was struggling mentally,” eventually shedding tears.
In October 2020, Jeongyeon sat out promotions for the second full-length album by TWICE due to tension and anxiety, and in August 2021 she again temporarily suspended activities due to symptoms of panic and other psychological anxiety disorders. She also confessed that she experienced Cushing syndrome and weight changes as side effects of steroids prescribed during treatment for a neck disc condition.
The journey of her older sister Gong Seung-yeon was long as well. In a past interview, Gong said she spent seven years at SM Entertainment preparing to debut as a singer but did not debut and changed course to acting. In this ‘You Quiz on the Block’ preview, she recalled, “I was anxious and truly at a loss,” and “my mother said, ‘I hope the eldest does well and can pull along the younger siblings.’”
In 2021, Gong received critical praise in a leading role in the film ‘People Who Live Alone’, and later joined ‘21st Century Grand Royal Consort’, drawing assessments of a “rediscovery”.
