The new release ‘I.D.O.L BOY’ is an album with a unique sound that dismantles the K-pop·hip-hop boundary through Kim Ga-yeon’s singular musical language. It three-dimensionally captures a coming-of-age narrative in which a girl who led an ordinary school life admires her first love, ‘IDOL BOY’, sets out on the path of music, and ultimately moves toward the dream of becoming an artist. In particular, it tightly weaves the candid and transparent emotions unique to a 19-year-old, likely evoking deep empathy from listeners.
The title track of the same name, ‘I.D.O.L BOY’, is a pop song built on a dynamic Drum & Bass rhythm. Over a refined sound and an ear-catching, addictive hook, it sensuously portrays love and admiration, along with the confusion that lies beneath them, completing the narrative that runs through the album.
A dazzling roster of domestic and international producers further elevates the album’s completeness. Led by producer Padi, who created the mega-hit ‘Smoke’ from Mnet competition Street Woman Fighter 2, the lineup includes Purple, who worked on global girl group XG’s ‘LEFT RIGHT’; bassist IKbbo, who participated in Lee Young-ji’s ‘Small girl’; and NICOLKEEM, composer of SEVENTEEN’s ‘SKYFALL’, with many top-tier creators joining to realize a rich and diverse musical spectrum.
