Actor Lim Ji-yeon, following the ‘possession meme’, ‘mukbang girl’, and ‘taekwondo girl’, is once again taking on ‘meme star’ status.
Appearing in the SBS Friday-Saturday drama ‘Brave New World’, Lim Ji-yeon presented a ‘Kim Du-han action show’ in the broadcast on the 15th. The drama is a hair-trigger, war-like comedy about an unknown actor, Shin Seori (Lim Ji-yeon), who has grown steely after being possessed by the soul of a notorious Joseon-era villainess, and a chaebol, Cha Segye (Heo Nam-jun), dubbed a monster born of capitalism.
The rating for episode 3 climbed to a nationwide household peak of 6.7% as tallied by Nielsen Korea, rising again from the previous episode.
Episode 3 portrayed Shin Seori in earnest pursuit of her dream of acting. In particular, while working a part-time shift at a supermarket, Seori bristled at the performance of Yoon Ji-hyo (Lee Se-hee) on TV and delivered a method-style queen consort turn.
Then, Cha Segye founded ‘BOJ Entertainment’ and brought Seori on board, an ending that heightened curiosity about what comes next.
Meanwhile, in the released stills, the production team showed Shin Seori transformed into Kim Du-han. The stills capture Seori wearing a grim expression, Seori clenching her fist, and Seori facing off against several men.
The way Seori moves, toppling an opponent nearly twice her size, is an homage to Kim Du-han dealing with street ruffians. Inspired by the drama ‘Rustic Period’, Seori unleashes action as if possessed by Kim Du-han, eliciting laughs.
The production team hints that this scene will be a standout moment following the buzzed-about ‘Jang Hee-bin possession meme’, heightening curiosity. Director Han Tae-seop said, “The scene in episode 4 where Seori is possessed by ‘Rustic Period’ Kim Du-han ranks easily among Lim Ji-yeon signature comic moments, in the top three,” drawing attention to episode 4.
