Kim Yeon-ju, who won Miss Korea Jin and worked as an entertainer, has been appointed as a professor in the Department of Statistics at Korea University.
According to Korea University on the 19th, Kim Yeon-ju was appointed as a full-time faculty member in the Department of Statistics at the Seoul Campus starting in March.
Kim is conducting research in human-computer interaction (HCI) and is teaching the undergraduate course ‘Statistical Computing Software’.
Kim previously applied to Korea University for the ‘Recruitment of Research-Focused Faculty for the first semester of the 2026 academic year’ and was appointed. According to the announcement, eligibility requires ‘holders of a doctoral degree’ and ‘those capable of lecturing in English’. It is a ‘non-tenure track’ in which, after a one-year contract and evaluation, reappointment is decided on a two-year contract basis; those reappointed three or more times are given preference in tenure-track recruitment. Kim applied for and was accepted to the Department of Statistics recruitment in the ‘Data Science for the Social Sciences’ area.

After being selected as Miss Korea Jin in 1999, Kim worked as an actor in the entertainment industry. She graduated from the Department of Theater and Film at Dankook University in 2003, then earned a master's degree from the same university's graduate school in 2013. She went on to complete a doctorate in the Department of Communication at Dankook University in 2019.
From 2022 to 2025, Kim served as a senior researcher at the Seoul National University Institute of Communication Research and conducted research activities. It has been reported that she published papers on topics such as artificial intelligence (AI) fact-checking and consumer responses to metaverse advertising.
