MBN ‘A Precious Family Next Door’

They drew empathy with stories of a couple and of a father and daughter.

Broadcast personalities Park Mi-sun and Ko Jun-hee shared the candid everyday lives of their different families.

On the first episode of the MBN family-observation reality program ‘A Precious Family Next Door,’ which aired on the 2nd, Park Mi-sun and Ko Jun-hee revealed to viewers the real daily lives of their families.

■ The bickering chemistry of Park Mi-sun and Lee Bong-won, a real weekend couple in their 34th year

On this broadcast, Park Mi-sun, who returned to TV about one year and six months after treatment for breast cancer, appeared with her husband Lee Bong-won and showcased the everyday life of a couple in their 34th year.

Before full-scale filming, Park Mi-sun said, “A married couple feels like good friends who look at the same place,” and “I heard there is a scientific reason couples resemble each other. As they go through good and bad together, they use the same facial muscles, so there is a basis for becoming alike, and I think I have often heard that my husband and I resemble each other.”

Because of a business run by Lee Bong-won, the couple have spent eight years living as a weekend couple, shuttling between Goyang in Gyeonggi Province and Cheonan in South Chungcheong Province. In the midst of this, Park Mi-sun visited the Cheonan home of Lee Bong-won carrying side dishes prepared by her mother-in-law, and, seeing her husband had not properly arranged the side dishes in the refrigerator, she poured out nagging. She then personally started cleaning the kitchen, telling Lee Bong-won, “It is right there in plain sight; how can you not wipe it?”, drawing laughter with the bickering of a couple in their 34th year.

■ ‘Nagging daughter’ Ko Jun-hee, heartfelt concern for her father

Appearing with her parents, Ko Jun-hee elicited empathy as she showed affection and concern for her family. In particular, she drew attention by carefully looking after the health of her father, who is lax about managing his diet.

As her father drank coffee and ate dessert, Ko Jun-hee said, “Dad, did you also eat cheesecake? I tell you to take good care of your health, so why do you keep eating flour-based foods?” When her father said, “I eat them occasionally. I have not eaten instant noodles for two months,” Ko Jun-hee countered, “Dad, did you not eat a twisted doughnut the day before yesterday? The test results did not come out well,” revealing her concern for his health.

Regarding this, Ko Jun-hee shared, “A few years ago, right after my father had a health checkup, he underwent a stent insertion,” and “If he had not had the checkup, it was a situation where a heart vessel could have been blocked and he could have collapsed. So I felt uneasy unless I watched from close by. I began preparing to live independently, then gave up and decided we should live together as a family.”

Watching the footage, Park Mi-sun said, “When I was young, I was the guardian of the children, but one day I aged and, as the children grew, they nagged like guardians and took me around. I do not entirely dislike the nagging. It feels like I am looking at my own home,” expressing empathy with the reality in which the relationship between children and parents changes.

Meanwhile, the MBN program ‘A Precious Family Next Door,’ featuring Park Mi-sun and Ko Jun-hee, is a family-observation reality show that reflects on the true meaning of family through portrayals that may seem like stories from another household but, on closer look, are the everyday lives of all of us. It airs every Tuesday at 9:50 p.m. on MBN.
