On episodes 7 and 8 of the TVING original ‘Becoming a Legendary Cookhouse Soldier’ (written by Choi Ryong / directed by Cho Nam-hyung / produced by Studio Dragon, Studio N / provided by TVING(TVING)), which aired on the 1st and 2nd, Kang Jun-gyu played Corporal Joo Sang-uk and injected energy into the story.
When Mess Sergeant Yoon Dong-hyeon (played by Lee Hong-nae) went on leave and the high-handed Corporal Kim Gwan-cheol (played by Kang Ha-gyeong) was assigned to the kitchen, Gangnim outpost entered the so-called ‘Kim Gwan-cheol occupation period’. Receiving a noticeably meager tray due to Kim Gwan-cheol's misdeeds, Joo Sang-uk (played by Kang Jun-gyu) pulled a long face and felt Yoon Dong-hyeon's absence. Growing weaker while subsisting on rations, Joo Sang-uk tasted the seafood paella Kang Seong-jae made from the rations and then appeared in an imagination sequence set in a bullring. Transformed into a matador, Joo Sang-uk shouted in Spanish meaning “Perfect! Absolutely excellent!” with an ecstatic expression, and Kang Seong-jae replied with “Gracias,” completing their cheerful chemistry.
Previously, Kang Jun-gyu transformed into ‘Sour Sang-uk’ of ‘Taste Boys’, delivering laughs, and this time again he stood at the center of an imagination sequence that amplified the drama's fun, imprinting his presence as a scene-stealer.
The TVING original ‘Becoming a Legendary Cookhouse Soldier’, starring Kang Jun-gyu, is a military cooking-fantasy drama that follows Private Kang Seong-jae, who wields a chef's knife instead of a rifle and an apron instead of a cartridge belt, as he is reborn as a ‘legendary cook soldier’.
