JTBC ‘Apartment’
“It could not have been better from the very first meeting!”
The new JTBC Saturday-Sunday drama ‘Apartment’ has unveiled a script reading session overflowing with the laughter, chemistry, and passion of lead actors Ji Sung, Ha Yoon-kyung, Park Byung-eun, and Moon So-ri.
Set to air its first episode in July, the new JTBC Saturday-Sunday drama ‘Apartment’ (written by Kim Yun-young, directed by Cho Yong-won, produced by SLL and Red Nine Pictures Co., Ltd.) is a down-to-earth human drama about Park Hae-kang, a former boss of the Oasis faction who runs for chair of the residents council to get hold of unmonitored funds within the apartment complex, joining forces with residents to stamp out corruption. With the most familiar yet freshest subject, the Jangchunggeum (long-term repair reserve fund), it presents a distinctly special caper comedy.
‘Apartment’ is a collaboration between writer Kim Yun-young, who showcased solid writing with the debut work ‘Revenge Has Returned’, and director Cho Yong-won, who won the directing award at the ‘Seoul Drama Awards’ for ‘Looking for the Child’. With Ji Sung, Ha Yoon-kyung, Park Byung-eun, and Moon So-riactors renowned for their craft in Koreaall gathered, it is cited as a highly anticipated title poised to lead the second half of 2026.
In ‘Apartment’, Ji Sung-Ha Yoon-kyung-Park Byung-eun-Moon So-ri showed top-tier laughter, chemistry, and passion from the start through the ‘script reading’. The four radiated sunny, forthright, mysterious, and busybody charms, sparking a formidable synergy worthy of chameleons.
Ji Sung immediately drew attention with an impactful performance as Park Hae-kang, the former boss of the Oasis faction known for a legendary 0% uncollected balance, who seeks to become chair of the residents council in order to raise capital of 10 billion won to save Yong-man, a father figure to him. With flexible control of intensity, he delicately expressed the charisma that cannot stand injustice and the brightness that gradually emerges in Park Hae-kang as he works with the residents. Exuding reassuring confidence, he declared, “I will flesh out Park Hae-kang well.”
Ha Yoon-kyung amplified a proactive allure with crisp diction as Kang Ha-ri, whose goal is to become a lawyer at the major firm We Partners but who in reality works part-time at the free consultation desk at We Partners. In particular, out of guilt toward the older sister who supported her, Kang Ha-ri lies that she has landed a job at We Partners and becomes entangled with Park Hae-kang (Ji Sung); her bickering with Park Hae-kang was portrayed with realism, drawing keen interest.
Park Byung-eun, playing Lee Chung-wona construction company head and penthouse resident who has it all from looks and wealth to eloquence and witcaptured the character’s luxurious side with an easy manner and gentle expressions, radiating warmth. Yet he soon clashes with Park Hae-kang over the Jangchunggeum, revealing a sharp, chilling side that delivers a twist. Park Byung-eun raised expectations by hinting at a mercurial character, saying, “While reading the script, I saw six or seven facets to the personality of Lee Chung-won.”
The moment she read the first line, Moon So-ri became one with Jang Suk-jin, a famed busybody for whom twenty-four hours are not enough, delivering a riveting performance. Portraying with high energy the talkativeness of Jang Suk-jin, who knows everything about apartment life and people and is famous for wide meddling, Moon So-ri at times brought Joan of Arc-like resolve and at other times over-the-top comedy, heightening the drama’s vitality.
