“From ‘Produce 101’ onward, no fewer than six audition attempts! There were occasions of being completely edited out during an audition broadcast!”
Seongri, the inaugural winner of ‘Nameless Legend’, reveals that he was “classmates on ‘Produce 101’ with ten-million actor Park Ji-hoon.” Runner-up Haru says, “I was offered a street casting by HYBE, the company behind BTS,” and unveils a surprising past in which he even applied to ‘High School Rapper’. Third-place Jang Han-byul shares that he was “no. 1 on the local Malaysian music charts for as many as 52 consecutive weeks.”
In episode 28 of MBN ‘Kim Joo-ha Day&Night’, to be broadcast on the 6th, Seongri, a versatile all-around trot performer who rose to become the first legend on ‘Nameless Legend’, Haru, the child prince of trot who debuted by finishing runner-up in his very first audition, and TOP3 Jang Han-byul, who transformed from a Malaysian star into a K-trot crown prince, appear to reveal part two of the behind-the-scenes stories of why they took on ‘Nameless Legend’ in pursuit of their dream of becoming singers.
The first legend of ‘Nameless Legend’, Seongri, says, “I challenged no fewer than six audition programs starting with ‘Produce 101’. I think I was eliminated around 46th place on ‘Produce 101’,” and adds, “Every time I had to turn back without even setting foot on the threshold of the finals, the frustration was great. With the feeling that it would be my last chance, I applied to ‘Nameless Legend’,” sharing the story of how he came to participate. Moreover, he opens up about the painful experience of having been completely edited out of a competition program he had appeared on in the past, recalling the moment when frustration about his dream began by saying, “When the stage I had prepared, staking everything on it, disappeared from the broadcast in its entirety, it was hard.”
Seongri continues, “The friends who were with me on ‘Produce 101’ became tremendous stars, and Park Ji-hoon also became a ten-million actor. When the friends I had been with did well, I felt envy and offered support, but I truly had a lot of impatience,” candidly confessing a deeper sense of urgency that draws encouragement.
Haru, who rose to TOP2, says, “During high school, there were two casting offers from then Big Hit, now HYBE, the company behind BTS,” and adds, “In my first year, my mother objected, and in my third year, I was too old to be a trainee and not ready, so I ultimately did not join.” Furthermore, Haru drops an entirely unexpected twist that surprises everyone: “I really liked G-Dragon and thought I should do hip-hop. I even applied to ‘High School Rapper’.” Curiosity builds about which currently successful idol group it was that Haru says he was proposed for at HYBE.
TOP3 Jang Han-byul carefully brings up the reason he chose to return to Korea even after becoming a national star in Malaysia. Having taken part in Malaysia’s national audition program ‘Big Stage(Big Stage) 2019’ and won, Jang Han-byul explains the background behind being called Malaysia’s crown prince by saying, “After winning, I ranked no. 1 on the local music charts for 52 consecutive weeks.” He then moves hearts by revealing the special motivation that he applied to ‘Nameless Legend’ for his parents: “For my parents’ joy and happiness, I wanted to succeed as a singer in Korea, my parents’ homeland.”
