KBS ‘The Completion of Marriage’
“It was an unfamiliar role, so I wanted to take on the challenge”
In the new Sat-Sun miniseries ‘The Completion of Marriage’, Lee Sang-hee makes a powerful first appearance as Kim Gyeong-ae, a mysterious woman of unknown identity.
Premiering at 9:20 p.m. on July 4, the new Sat-Sun miniseries ‘The Completion of Marriage’ on KBS2 (Directors Kim Jung-hyun, Kim Min-tae /Writer Jung Jae-ha /Producers Red Nine Pictures, KBS Media) is a high-stakes crime thriller about a man who wages an extreme fight against a monstrous criminal to save his wife, who is kidnapped on the verge of divorce.
In ‘The Completion of Marriage’, Lee Sang-hee transforms into Kim Gyeong-ae, a mysterious woman who suddenly appears before Go Se-yoon (played by Lee Seol), who is in trouble. Her words and actions are clearly kind and gentle, yet she somehow evokes an uncanny sense of dissonance that sends chills. Constantly provoking suspicion, Kim Gyeong-ae drives the case forward in unexpected ways and becomes a decisive variable that changes the course of the story.
From dramas to films and theater, Lee Sang-hee has built a distinctive acting spectrum with her signature ‘reality-anchored’ performances in works such as ‘Morning Comes Even to the Psychiatric Ward’, ‘My Perfect Secretary’, ‘Polaris’, and ‘Girigo’. Anticipation is rising for how Lee Sang-hee, who has embodied the pinnacle of ‘realistic acting’ through universal ordinariness and natural delivery, will portray the eerie tension of Kim Gyeong-ae.
Meanwhile, Lee Sang-hee grabs attention with on-set moments that reveal facets of Kim Gyeong-ae, a woman brimming with suspicious secrets. In one scene, Kim Gyeong-ae (played by Lee Sang-hee) casts a wary gaze toward somewhere. She moves along holding a plastic bag containing an unknown item, and when she discovers something, her startled look heightens the unease. Curiosity mounts over what kind of ripple Kim Gyeong-ae, who brings an inexplicable mood each time she appears, will cause.
Lee Sang-hee said, “Thankfully, I received an offer to join the cast, and above all, I was curious about the actors I would be working with. I have appeared in the same project as Namgoong Min before, but I had not had the chance to actually act together, so through this project I wanted to work in the same scenes. I also wanted to watch Kim Dae-myung’s acting up close,” explaining what led her to play the mysterious character Kim Gyeong-ae.
Lee Sang-hee added, “The role was unfamiliar to me as well, so I wanted to take on the challenge. I thought deeply about how I could portray Gyeong-ae well, so during filming I asked the director and my fellow actors many questions, and in the process of exchanging emotions I received a lot of help,” expressing strong trust in her co-actors.
The production team stated, “With 27 years of solid acting experience, Lee Sang-hee uniquely completed Kim Gyeong-ae, a character who evokes dissonance within the ordinary,” adding, “Each word and every glance from Lee Sang-hee will provide the dramatic allure that sparks doubt, anxiety, and suspicion.”
The new Sat-Sun miniseries ‘The Completion of Marriage’ was produced with support from the Broadcasting and Communications Development Fund of the Broadcasting Media Communications Commission and will premiere at 9:20 p.m. on July 4.
