ENA ‘Doctor Seomboy’ broadcast capture

Actor Hong Min-gi delivered a heart-fluttering moment to viewers at home as he and Shin Ye-eun shared a room in the drama.

In ENA ‘Doctor Seomboy’, Hong Min-gi plays Hyun Chi-yeon, an ultra-elite public health doctor who combines looks and skill, and he heightened immersion by plainly portraying inner changes in the character and his feelings toward Yuk Hari (played by Shin Ye-eun).

In episodes 3-4 of ‘Doctor Seomboy’, Hyun Chi-yeon (played by Hong Min-gi) had his human side and backstory explored in depth through various incidents at the Pyeondong Health Center.

During a commotion when a swarm of bees escaped at the health center, Hyun Chi-yeon appeared fully geared with insecticide in both hands, offering an unexpectedly comic charm. He revealed a warm side as he treated Yong Ju-cheon (played by Kim Yoon-woo), who had been stung, yet he also advised his colleagues not to overexert themselves. It was then revealed that in the past he had been unfairly sued by a patient and bereaved family members, leaving him emotionally scarred, which added weight to the character's multi-dimensional narrative.

The change in Hyun Chi-yeon, who had kept a cold wall up, turned toward nurse Yuk Hari and flowed into a romantic development. Normally reluctant to make house calls, he readily accepted a suggestion from Hari and headed to Madeok Island. On the boat, he looked at Hari, who had overapplied sunscreen on her face, with eyes that seemed fond and gently yet deeply affectionate.

Upon arriving on Madeok Island, Hyun initially stormed out at an absurd request from a resident to treat a puppy, but, seeing Hari's concern, he phoned an acquaintance for advice and then kindly completed the examination. Later, when the puppy returned with thorns embedded, he and Hari created a heartwarming scene by successfully treating it using a grave yet adorable method: wrapping plastic around his own head and luring the dog with a squeeze-tube treat.

There was also an episode in which the two missed the last boat after treating the puppy and ended up sharing a room. Momentarily surprised to learn the resident had prepared only a single room, Hyun soon regained his composure and suggested drinks to Hari. As they shared glasses in the yard, the veil lifted on their origin story: their first encounter at a past traffic accident scene. Back then, after treating a patient, Hyun picked up the phone Hari had left behind, which she had amusingly mistaken as him asking for her number. Later, when turning in for the night, Hari protested as Hyun drew a boundary with his coat, but viewers felt a flutter when Hyun looked at Hari, who had crossed that line in her sleep, with gentle, affectionate amusement.

Their intimate current continued after they returned to the Pyeondong Health Center. During CPR training for residents, Hyun lay on the floor in place of a mannequin and, in a mischievous tease audible only to Hari, asked whether she had washed her hair, creating a charged mood. Rumors of their romance spreading through the island village, along with the gaze of Do Ji-ui (played by Lee Jae-wook) watching them, stirred curiosity about how their relationships might change.

At the end of the episode, an emergency patient arrived with a fishhook lodged in his tongue, spotlighting the elite prowess of Hyun once again. Stepping in for Do Ji-ui, who had begun treatment without understanding the fishhook's characteristics, Hyun handled the case with seasoned skill born of extensive experience, leaving a strong impression with his charisma. Do Ji-ui watching Hyun handle things more impressively than himself hinted at looming conflict among the three and added intrigue.

Hong Min-gi deepened immersion by delicately portraying the inner changes and growing warmth of Hyun Chi-yeon, a character moving past old wounds and revealing a gentle emotional line. From visuals to narrative and character development, he is delivering across the board and drawing a positive response.

As the love triangle with Do Ji-ui around Yuk Hari takes shape in earnest, expectations are rising for Hong Min-gi's performance in the episodes to come.
