Actor Shin Hyun-joon revealed his affection for actress Kim Sumi, to whom he had long been especially close.
Taking on his first ever dual role in the 36 years since his debut with the film ‘Hyunsangsubae’, Shin Hyun-joon will appear on the MBN talk show ‘Kim Ju-ha Day & Night’ airing on the 13th to share a heartfelt story about Kim Sumi.

During the program, when Kim Ju-ha asked “What is Kim Sumi to Shin Hyun-joon?”, he confessed his feelings for her, saying, “She really is a mother. Even now, I get the feeling she is alive and somewhere.” Having first met Kim Sumi while filming the ‘Gamun Series’, Shin Hyun-joon said, “From then on, I followed her around saying ‘Mom, Mom’, and Mom Sumi even made sure I was fed like her own son.”
In particular, he said they grew even closer while filming ‘Barefoot Gibong’, in which they played a mother and son, and that after seeing families come together to watch ‘Barefoot Gibong’, Kim Sumi suggested, “Make a comedy film that families can watch, one with family love.”

As a result, Shin Hyun-joon and Kim Sumi appeared together in ‘Ghost Police’, and that work became Kim Sumi’s final project.
Shin Hyun-joon said, “Mom Sumi monitored everything I did,” and added, “If she were alive, she would have monitored ‘Day & Night’ as well. ‘Hyun-joon, is Kim Ju-ha pretty?’ I think she would have asked me that,” leaving everyone choked up.

Kim Sumi, who debuted in 1970 as an MBC third-round open recruitment talent and went on to act in works such as ‘Jeonwon Ilgi’ and the ‘Gamun Series’, passed away on October 25, 2024, at the age of 75.
‘Kim Ju-ha Day & Night’ airs every Saturday at 9:40 p.m.
