“A warm meeting with inmates through a message of hope and recovery”

Singer Jeok-woo offered another moving experience with a special concert at Somang Correctional Institution.

On the 11th, Jeok-woo visited Somang Correctional Institution in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province, and gave a heartfelt consolation performance for inmates. Through the special performance, a message of hope and recovery was delivered.

With signature deep emotion, explosive vocal power, and sincere storytelling, Jeok-woo offered warm inspiration. The performance came together through an introduction by Gwak Seong-Hun, Korea representative of the International Prison Association, and was arranged to help prevent recidivism, support social reintegration, and convey hope for a new life.

Taking the stage, Jeok-woo spoke calmly about her life. Jeok-woo is also someone who endured painful wounds and times of tears in the past through music and song, and rose again.

At the performance, Jeok-woo sang of loneliness and hope in life, and the inmates watched the stage while holding even their breath. As the singing began, the auditorium was bathed in deep emotion. As melodies rich in pathos flowed, many wiped away tears, and after the performance ended, the applause did not stop for a long time.

During the performance, Jeok-woo said, “Life sometimes collapses, but people can stand up again. I hope this time today becomes a small courage for someone to live on.”

Gwak Seong-Hun, Korea representative of the International Prison Association, said, “Music has the power to move and change the human heart,” and added, “The sincere songs of Jeok-woo became a precious time that delivered hope and courage to the inmates.”

The visit performance at Somang Correctional Institution was all the more meaningful because Jeok-woo willingly took part despite a very busy schedule touring major cities nationwide, including Seoul, Gwangju, Jeju, Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, and Incheon. The nationwide tour of Jeok-woo, full of sincerity, is currently continuing a streak of sold-out shows at every performance.

Recently, Jeok-woo joined hands with ‘Good Concert’ and successfully wrapped up shows at the 2,000-seat Daeyang Hall of Sejong University and in Gwangju and Jeju. In response to fervent requests from audiences, the nationwide tour Seoul encore concert ‘I Want to See You Closer’ will be held at 2 p.m. on July 26 at the Cube Convention Center in Sangam-dong.

Jeok-woo said, “It was a meaningful time that showed that music is not only an art on stage, but can also become a language of comfort and healing that helps lift someone up again. Going forward, I want to continue various sharing and public-interest activities for neighbors who are marginalized and for people who are hurting, and to deliver messages of hope and love.”

She also showed strong resolve, saying, “I am preparing a new song scheduled for release this fall. I will pour the love received from you all during this nationwide tour and social contribution activities into the new song.”
