Comedian Lee Yong-sik has signaled his deep devotion to his granddaughter through a variety show.
Appearing on TV Chosun’s docu-variety ‘Lovers of Joseon’, Lee looks poised to ascend from the moniker ‘National Daughter-Fool’ to ‘National Granddaughter-Fool’.
In a pre-release video for the episode of ‘Lovers of Joseon’ set to air on the 15th, scenes are revealed from the first-birthday party for his granddaughter, following the journey that included his only daughter Sumin’s wedding, honeymoon, and childbirth. At the party, Lee read a letter he had written to his granddaughter.

He grew teary-eyed as he delivered the heartfelt words, “From now on, I will pour my love into my granddaughter. I will pour out even my life…”.
In an interview with the production team, Lee conveyed his resolute determination as a ‘granddaughter lover’ grandfather, saying, “A granddaughter born to my only daughter, my only grandchild… I want to pour everything into her.” He then looked back on the past, adding, “When my daughter Sumin was young, we did not have much time together. I left for work while she was asleep, and I came home when everyone had gone to bed.”
He continued, “I feel so sorry that I could not show my love then. At least with my granddaughter, I will greatly increase the time we spend together. I worked hard to make a first-birthday party with no regrets,” revealing his sincere feelings for her.

Lee had his daughter Lee Sumin after eight years of marriage, following a difficult time. However, in 1997 he hovered between life and death due to a myocardial infarction, and a video of young Lee Sumin praying for her father as he entered the operating room became a hot topic. Last year, Lee Sumin had a daughter, Iel, with singer Won-hyeok, who was a contestant on ‘Mister Trot 2’.
