MBC ‘Fifty Percent’ broadcast capture

Actor Kim Sung-jung is proving an unlimited acting spectrum in the drama, from raw survival instincts to tender family love with Oh Jung-se.

By vividly portraying an extreme ordeal, Kim Sung-jung heightened viewer immersion to its peak.

In episodes 7 and 8 of the MBC Friday-Saturday drama ‘Fifty Percent’ (written by Jang Won-seop, directed by Han Dong-hwa), aired on the 12th and 13th, he played Heo Nam-il, the legendary held-back student at Yeongseon Jungang High School, conveying to home viewers the complex, multilayered psychology and fear of a man driven to the edge.

Previously, lured by the sweet offer of $750 (1,000,000 KRW) per day, Heo Nam-il came face-to-face with a massive drug deal involving members of the Heaven Capital organization. Realizing the frigid atmosphere too late, he tried to get away, but once it was discovered that he was the nephew of Bong Je-sun (played by Oh Jung-se), he was taken hostage by Yu In-gu (played by Hyeon Bong-sik) and his crew, facing a life-or-death crisis.

In a split second, Bong Je-sun lost his composure and rushed in to save his nephew, leading to a desperate brawl, and a vehicle carrying Prosecutor Kang (played by Kim Shin-rok) and Officer Park Mi-gyeong (played by Han Ji-eun) and their team hurtled toward the dock. Heo Nam-il, keeping his wits, supported his unconscious uncle Bong Je-sun and dramatically climbed into the vehicle, delivering white-knuckle tension.

Heo Nam-il felt deep remorse and gratitude toward Bong Je-sun, who willingly braved danger for him, evoking tenderness. In particular, when Bong Je-sun set out alone with Prosecutor Kang, Heo mistook it for a date and carefully straightened his outfit at his side; the scene drew warm smiles thanks to his trademark cheekiness and the sincere heart of someone who, though gruff on the outside, puts family before anyone else.

With flexible acting that shifts between gravity and wit even in extreme situations, Kim Sung-jung has proven his presence, raising expectations for what he will show next.

Debuting with the musical ‘Hadestown’ in 2021, Kim Sung-jung made a strong impression on the public in the Netflix series ‘Weak Hero Class 2’ as part of the crew led by Geum Sung-je (played by Lee Jun-young). Since then, he has steadily expanded his acting spectrum across genres through numerous projects, including tvN ‘Gyeonwoo and Jiknyeo’ and ‘I Will Give You the Universe’.
