Rapper Yuk Ji-dam confessed that she initially tried to hide the fact that she works as a consultation manager at a plastic surgery clinic. She was worried that her name could invite prejudice.
In a video recently released on the YouTube channel ‘Geunyang Uisa ㅇㅅㅇ,’ Yuk Ji-dam revealed her daily routine working as a consultation manager at a plastic surgery clinic. Regarding what led her to announce her career change, she said, “If anything, before then I hid that I worked at a plastic surgery clinic,” and, “Because of my three-syllable name, prejudice could arise, and people might view it negatively.”
What changed her mind was the interview with the clinic director. Yuk Ji-dam said her thinking shifted when the director presented a vision: “I know you are famous, and I know you have done music. Even if you do other work, that can have a positive impact. Let us try to work things out well together with our clinic.” She added, “I actually had no intention of letting people know that I work at a clinic, but after meeting the director and coming to this clinic, I ended up making it public through Reels.”
The clinic director also explained the hiring background. In the video, the director said, “We needed a consultation manager, so we posted a recruitment notice, and she (Yuk Ji-dam) applied,” and, “At the interview, even if you set aside ‘the fame of being Yuk Ji-dam,’ her clothing, manner of speaking, posture, and goals were good compared with other applicants.” The director added that some visitors came to the clinic after seeing Yuk Ji-dam.
Yuk Ji-dam gained recognition in 2014 on the Mnet audition program ‘Show Me the Money 3’ as the ‘Hip-hop Push-and-Pull Girl,’ and later appeared on ‘Unpretty Rapstar,’ among others. She subsequently appeared on various variety shows but also confessed that she was going through a slump.
She explained that after working night shifts at a convenience store and at a pizza place, she began as a clinic coordinator, applied to about 100 places, and then moved to a consultation manager position.
