Na Hong-jin, the director of the film ‘Hope’, praised Jo In-sung for completing his action performance with hardly any help from CG.

In an interview with Sports Kyunghyang held in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 7th, Na said, “The ‘Hope’ cast performed with real passion” and added, “In particular, Jo In-sung miraculously pulled off the road chase sequence on horseback himself without any CG work.”

When asked about coordination with the actors, he explained, “To synchronize for a film like this, a lot of advance preparation is required. At minimum, around 50 people on set need to be in perfect sync to create those kinds of scenes” and “Every actor approached that effort with tremendous passion.”

He went on, joking, “There were even instances like this on set. After shooting, while eating and chatting with the actors and staff, I realized there was something only I did not know. They were scenes everyone assumed would all be handled with CG, and (since that was not the plan) I was the only one who did not know” and added with a laugh, “Perhaps the actors had been exchanging that kind of talk, because the mood felt odd that day. So I encouraged them, saying, ‘No, you can perform it (without CG).’ The actors pulled it off like a miracle.”

He also expressed admiration, saying, “The scene where Jo In-sung steps down from the horse on one foot and moves his leg into the car is an action move an ordinary person cannot do. But he did it” and added, “What is more, it turned out so well that I was pleased.”

‘Hope’ depicts the story of ‘Beom-seok’, the head of the Hopo Port branch office located in the Demilitarized Zone, who hears from village youths that a tiger has appeared and, as the entire village falls into confusion, confronts an unbelievable reality. It opens on the 15th.
