The MBC daily drama ‘Family Relations Certificate’ shook viewers with an ending that saw Jeon No-min confessing a terminal diagnosis during a three-way confrontation.
In episode 3 of the MBC daily drama ‘Family Relations Certificate’ (planned by Namgoong Seong-woo, Jang Jae-hoon/directed by Kim Mi-sook/written by Park Ji-hyun/produced by MBC C&I, Void), which aired on the 8th (Wed), not only was the source of the lifelong guilt borne by Na Jini (played by Park Se-young) revealed, but the shocking terminal confession of Cha Min-gi (played by Jeon No-min) turned into resentment toward Na Seri (played by Han Go-eun) and Noh Young-ju (played by Im Ji-eun), unleashing a maximal dopamine rush in the narrative.
The broadcast also revealed for the first time the truth of how the once-happy family of Young-ju and Min-gi collapsed into ruin 30 years ago. It was revealed that trusted husband Min-gi had an affair with Seri, who had been a younger acquaintance, and that Jini was born from that relationship, exposing the beginning of every tragedy. Grabbing Seri by the hair and unleashing fierce rage, Young-ju hurled a cruel curse at the newborn Jini, saying, “I will make you feel for the rest of your life what adultery by your parents means for a child,” which made the life of Jini even more heartbreaking, as from the moment she was born she had to be treated as a sinner not because of any fault of her own but because of the warped desires of her parents.
The ordeals of Jini, who had always carried guilt and wounds, continued into adulthood. After Jini, with difficulty, submitted a work to a contest, Do Do-hee (played by Park Sola), who had bullied her in middle school, reappeared. Do-hee not only hurled venom at Jini, calling her “a seed of sin like you,” but also, in front of her boyfriend Im Ji-hoo (played by Sung Yi-eon), used fake tears to recast Jini as a school-violence perpetrator, meticulously plotting to induce her elimination from the contest. As Jini, once a victim of school violence, now faced being framed as a perpetrator, the ill-fated tie between the two deepened further; with the added link through Ji-hoo, curiosity grew over what incidents will unfold in their relationship going forward.
Meanwhile, conflicts within the family began to erupt uncontrollably. Min-gi visited the family home in Seochon to mark his father's memorial day, faced the fierce anger of his second son, Cha Seung-woo (played by Jeon Seung-bin), and was coldly rejected even by Young-ju. After returning home, he was then shown stunned as he heard a desperate cry from his daughter Jini that she had lived feeling a heavy guilt for having shattered a family from the moment she was born, which only heightened the sense of pity.
In particular, the choice Min-gi made with death looming was more than enough to deliver an unprecedented shock. He summoned Seri and Young-ju to the same hotel and dropped a bombshell about his limited time, saying, “They say I am dying soon. Pancreatic cancer. In a very bad location.” Claiming that the reason he was ill was because of the two of them, Min-gi exploded with long-suppressed resentment and unleashed a mad scream: “Give me ten years of your lifespans. You tormented me like this, so the two of you bring me back to life.” The sight of Seri and Young-ju freezing in apparent shock closed the episode, sending chills once again. As a result, attention is focused on what upheaval the shocking terminal declaration by Min-gi will bring in episode 4, and how their relationships will be shaken.
