Film director Jang Hang-jun has signaled an active run on variety shows.
SBS Plus ‘Time Tracker Seollok,’ which premieres at 10:30 p.m. on the 14th, is a history-tracing variety show that fills in the blanks left by records. It digs into the stories hidden behind a single line of record to deliver twists and fresh shocks that make us see the history we thought we knew in a new light.
In particular, Jang Hang-jun is drawing attention as he steps up as the main MC of a history program following the film ‘The Man Who Lives with the King,’ which captivated 17 million moviegoers.
Jang Hang-jun said, “It feels like there is a history craze. ‘A nation that forgets its history has no future’ is also a saying, is it not? It seems that history holds important meaning for understanding today,” adding, “I am approaching it as if I were studying, underlining the script. If something raises a question, I look it up, and as the (main MC), I make thorough preparations.”
He also appealed for anticipation, saying that, just like the film ‘The Man Who Lives with the King,’ which began from only a few lines in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, ‘Time Tracker Seollok’ has “many good items,” and adding, “What stays with me is the Joseon Tongsinsa. I did not realize such immense stories were hidden in the Joseon Tongsinsa, which I had seen as a single line in history books.”
The production team said, “For us, from start to finish, the main MC is unconditionally Director Jang Hang-jun alone. He is the one-and-only storyteller who can bring to life the ‘history behind-the-scenes stories’ that ‘Time Tracker Seollok’ pursues in the most compelling way,” adding, “He has an exceptional knack for pinpointing angles that will spark public interest. He is the best pacesetter who makes viewers immerse themselves in the story.”
They continued, “He is truly outstanding at shifting perspectives in how he views cases,” and added, “Director Jang Hang-jun often says that ‘History is not a subject for memorizing answers but a story that poses questions,’ and every time we see his instinct for capturing the human essence rather than a formulaic narrative, we realize again that ‘As expected, the eye of a 17-million director is different.’”
