There have been claims that some Chinese netizens are illegally watching the Netflix series ‘True Education’.

Professor Seo Kyung-deok of Sungshin Women's University said on the 9th that a review page for ‘True Education’ had been created on the largest review site in China, Douban. As of the 9th, about 140,000 people had participated in the star ratings on this page, and more than 50,000 reviews had been posted.

Netflix is not officially available in China at present. For this reason, Professor Seo viewed the reviews as having been posted after illegal viewing of ‘True Education’.

Professor Seo said, “If you search for ‘True Education’ on Baidu, the largest portal site in China, you can easily find free-viewing sites.” Earlier, other Netflix titles such as ‘K-pop Demon Hunters’, ‘Squid Game’, ‘Culinary Class Wars’, and ‘The Glory’ had also sparked controversy due to illegal viewing by some Chinese netizens.

He said, “Illegal viewing has now become routine in China,” adding, “What is even more astonishing is the complete absence of any sense of shame.”

He went on to say, “It is now time for a more proactive response from the Chinese authorities,” adding, “Do not continue to leave the normalization of illegal viewing unattended; intensive crackdowns on illegal activities within the country and measures to prevent recurrence are urgently needed.”
