At 7 p.m. on the 10th, the ArirangTV global channel program ‘Vibe in Action’ will pre-release Episode 14 in a new-media (YouTube) format with the theme ‘A Battlefield Ruled by AI’.

That day, hosting duties are handled by broadcaster Ahn Hyun-mo and Peter Bint, with guest Shin Seung-hyu, a researcher at the Center for Future Warfare Studies within the Institute of International Affairs at Seoul National University.

The ArirangTV global science talk program, which presents future industries and cutting-edge technologies from South Korea to a worldwide audience, returns with the second installment of its defense series.

This episode focuses on how artificial intelligence is changing the contours of the modern battlefield and closely examines the present and future of defense technology in the AI era.

Through the war in Ukraine and conflicts in the Middle East, AI has moved beyond a simple supporting technology to become a core capability on the modern battlefield.

By analyzing vast data in real time to detect targets, predict enemy movements, and even propose optimal operational plans, AI is changing the very speed and conduct of war.

Researcher Shin Seung-hyu of the Seoul National University Institute of International Affairs takes a wide-ranging look at AI-based military operations in the United States and Israel, AI drones used in the war in Ukraine, and the defense-AI competition unfolding among the United States, China, South Korea, and North Korea.

Shin Seung-hyu states, “AI is not merely a technology that aids rapid decision-making; it is transforming the very paradigm of the modern battlefield,” and explains, “Going forward, how effectively AI is utilized will become an important factor in national security competitiveness.”

Host Ahn Hyun-mo and panelist Peter Bint examine, in accessible terms, what roles AI is performing on real battlefields, how AI-based drones and command decision systems operate, and how far AI can substitute for human judgment.

They also consider, through diverse cases, whether AI is a technology that makes war more efficient or one that amplifies new risks.

The program also visits the AI-based data analytics company ‘Inspace’ to introduce the current state of defense AI technology in South Korea. It takes a close look at technology that analyzes vast information collected from drones, satellites, and various sensors with AI to grasp battlefield conditions in real time, and at domestic capabilities that secure data using proprietary satellites as the country prepares for future battlefields.

Shin Seung-hyu emphasizes, “AI will make war faster and more precise in the future, but final judgment and responsibility must ultimately remain with humans,” adding, “International norms and social debate on how to control and employ AI are more important than anything else.”

The second installment of the defense series, ‘The Battlefield Ruled by AI,’ will be released at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 10, via the official ArirangTV YouTube channel. The main broadcast can be viewed one week later, at 9 a.m. on Friday, on ArirangTV.

The next episode, ‘Space Platform Strategy,’ will examine changes in the future security environment, focusing on satellites, space surveillance systems, and military satellite technologies.
