MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama ‘Married Woman Killer’

A video has been released that takes dead aim at the small screen with Gong Hyo-jin’s reawakened killer instincts, heralding the return of the legendary sniper ‘Kingfisher’ in the drama.

Set to premiere at 9:50 p.m. on the 31st, MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama ‘Married Woman Killer’ (Planning Kwon Sung-chang / Screenplay Kim Eun-hee / Directed by Yoon Jong-ho, Kim Ji-hoon / Produced by Bon Factory, Baram Pictures, Studio PIM) tells the story of a working mom with the most lethal job in the world as she struggles to defend her work-life balance.

In the show, Gong Hyo-jin plays Yoo Bona, an ordinary married woman at home but the legendary sniper Kingfisher at work. Her precarious double life, straddling everyday routine and dangerous missions, is set to deliver both real-life resonance and thrilling catharsis to viewers.

The first teaser released on the 9th opens with a striking image of Yoo Bona pulling the trigger of a sniper rifle on a building rooftop. The bullet, flying swiftly through a gap between window frames, instantly neutralizes the target who is strangling someone. Her unhesitating movements and cool-headed presence stoke curiosity about the true identity of the shrouded-in-mystery Kingfisher.

But the grim mood flips in an instant. Yoo Bona helps pick out clothes for her husband, Kwon Tae-seong (played by Jung Jun-won), and captivates as a warm, ordinary mom who throws herself into playing with her daughter, Kwon Yul (played by Hwang Bom-i). In particular, standing before her mother-in-law Ok Seon-ja (played by Cha Mi-kyung) with a kitchen knife in hand, she gives an awkward smile and says, “I haven’t really used this for this purpose before,” foreshadowing her eventful adjustment to her in-laws. Then, catching an apple tossed by her mother-in-law with one hand, the scene further amplifies interest in Yoo Bona’s unexpected charm and out-of-the-ordinary killer instincts.

Meanwhile, having finished parental leave, Yoo Bona gets back in motion in earnest to protect the world from heinous criminals. At the same time, breaking news announcing Kingfisher’s return airs, ratcheting up the tension. Seemingly shocked, her husband Kwon Tae-seong jumps to his feet to watch the news, while Lee Dong-jin (played by Lee Sang-yi) adds certainty, saying, “100% Kingfisher,” heightening curiosity about the unpredictable turns that lie ahead for them.

Now that she has a family to protect, the final shot of Yoo Bona raising a sniper rifle as she says, “Starting the client meeting,” heralds Kingfisher’s spectacular comeback and drives anticipation for the broadcast to its peak.

MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama ‘Married Woman Killer’ is based on a popular Kakao Webtoon of the same name and premieres at 9:50 p.m. on July 31.
