Broadcast capture of MBC daily drama ‘Family Relations Certificate’
“I don’t think we really know each other”
Actor Seong I-eon delivered an impressive portrayal of a wavering emotional arc in the soap opera (daily drama).
In episodes 22 and 23 of the MBC daily drama ‘Family Relations Certificate’ (directed by Kim Mi-sook, written by Park Ji-hyun), Seong I-eon convincingly depicted Im Ji-hoo as he begins to look back on what had seemed a steadfast relationship while growing increasingly out of sync with his fiancee Do Do-hee (played by Park Sola).
Ji-hoo learned that Do-hee had secretly purchased a painting from the project he had led that ultimately did not sell. Having even politely declined his father’s offer to buy it in order to accept the project’s failure on his own terms, Ji-hoo saw Do-hee’s action not as consideration but as unwanted goodwill, which left him disappointed and hurt.
His father Im Jung-bin (played by Um Hyo-seop) asked, “How much do you love Do-hee?”, which further shook Ji-hoo’s heart. Having lost confidence in the relationship with Do-hee that he had long taken for granted, Ji-hoo finally confided to her, “You’re the only one who matters to me. But right now that’s wavering.”
He continued, “I don’t think we really know each other. I want to find the me who loved you again. I’ll think again about what I was thinking when I believed and chose you as my fiancee,” signaling that their relationship had entered a new phase.
Rather than pouring out his emotions, Seong I-eon contained them calmly, rendering Ji-hoo’s confusion and sense of loss in a layered way and adding depth to the character’s arc as he reaches a turning point in the relationship. With warning lights flashing in Ji-hoo’s relationship with Do-hee, viewers are focusing on what choice Ji-hoo will make after his agonizing deliberation.
Seong I-eon’s new MBC daily drama ‘Family Relations Certificate’ airs every Monday through Friday at 7:05 p.m.
