경희대학교병원 소화기센터는 2007년 개소한 이후, 발전을 거듭하며 최고 수준의 내시경 장비와 시설, 소화기 전반을 아우르는 의료진을 보유하고 있다.

소화기센터가 진료하는 범위는 생각 외로 넓다. 단순한 위장관 증상의 조절부터 조기 위장관암의 내시경 절제술, 말기암의 항암치료, 지혈, 스텐트 삽입, 천공 봉합, 담석 제거 등의 치료내시경, 염증성장질환의 면역치료 등이 속한다. 또한 국내 6대 암에 속하는 위암이나 대장암, 간암의 국가 암검진도 소화기센터에서 시행하고 있다.

경희대병원 소화기센터의 내시경 관련 장비는 세계 최고 수준을 자랑한다. 2021년 4월 새롭게 문을 연 ‘원스톱 ERCP실(내시경역행췌담내시경실)은 세계 최고 독일 지멘스사의 전용 투시 장비(Artis Zee MP)를 도입, 환자 및 의료진에게 노출되는 방사선량을 최소화하면서 높은 품질의 영상을 구현한다. 또한 독일 드래거사의 실링펜던트시스템(Celling Pendant System)을 통해 내시경을 비롯한 모든 장비를 천장에 장착하여 상황에 맞는 자유로운 배치가 가능하다. 환자와 시술팀 모두에게 안전성, 편의성, 효율성을 극대화한 것이다. 1억 원이 넘는 55인치 대형 디스플레이 시스템은 하나의 모니터로 환자의 여러 영상을 한 번에 확인하며 시술이 가능하도록 설계했다. 이를 통해 복잡하고 어려운 췌장 및 담도 질환을 안전하고 효과적으로 진단, 치료할 수 있다. 소화기센터의 영상저장장치(게이트웨이)는 개소 때부터 Full HD급 저장장치를 설치해 국내 최고의 영상 화질을 자랑한다. 대부분의 병원이 HD급 저장으로 화질 저하를 보이고 것과는 차별성을 둔 것이다.

소화기센터는 크게 장기별 4개의 팀으로 하부위장관(김효종, 이창균, 오신주 교수), 췌장담도(동석호, 오치혁 교수팀), 간(김기애, 박예완 교수), 상부위장관(장재영, 김정욱 교수)으로 구성돼 있다. 소화기센터의 30여 명의 간호사들은 친절은 물론, 최신 의학 및 기술을 습득하여 최고 수준의 의료환경을 지원하고 있다.

안전은 두 가지의 의미가 있다. 첫째는 환자를 모니터링하는 장비, 이를 관리하는 인력 시스템의 구축, 장비의 소독 등 외적인 환경에 관한 안전이다. 둘째는 의료진의 실력이다. 경희대학교병원 소화기센터의 치료내시경 술기로 인한 천공의 합병증은 10년 내 발생률 0%를 자랑한다. 이같은 치료 성적은 안전한 치료 환경을 제공한다는 것과 의료진 실력이 최신 소화기 관련 술기가 가능하다는 것을 방증한다.

■ Since its opening in 2007, the digestive system center at Kyunghee University Hospital has continued to develop rapidly and has the highest level of endoscopic equipment, facilities, and medical staff embracing the entire digestive system. It was also selected as “World‘s Best Hospital by Clinical Field 2023” for the division of gastroenterology by Newsweek, a U.S. weekly magazine.

The scope of treatment is wider than expected. It includes from simple control of gastrointestinal symptoms to therapeutic endoscopy, and immunotherapy for inflammatory disease, such as endoscopic surgical procedure of early gastrointestinal malignancy, anticancer treatment in end-stage cancer, hemostasis, stent insertion, perforation suture, and gallstone removal. National cancer screening for gastric cancer, colon cancer, and liver cancer, which belong to the six major cancers in Korea, is also being conducted at the digestive center.

Kyunghee University Hospital‘s digestive system center boasts the world’s best endoscope-related equipment. The ‘One-Stop ERCP(Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography) Room’, newly opened in April 2021, introduces the world’s best German Siemens‘ specialized penetration equipment (Artis Zee MP) to realize high-quality images whilst minimizing radiation exposure to patients and medical staff. In addition, all equipment, including endoscopes, is mounted on the ceiling through the German Dragger’s Sealing Pendant System, enabling free placement according to the situation. It maximizes safety, convenience, and efficiency for both patients and treatment teams. The 55-inch large display system, which costs more than 100 million won, is designed to allow procedure with checking multiple images of patients at once with one monitor. Through this, complex and difficult pancreatic and biliary tract diseases can be safely and effectively diagnosed and treated. The digestive system center‘s video storage system (gateway) boasts the best image quality in Korea by installing a Full HD-class storage device from the opening. It is different from the fact that most hospitals show poor image quality with HD-class storage.

The digestive center consists of four teams by organ, consisting of lower gastrointestinal tract (Professors Kim Hyo-jong, Lee Chang-kyun, and Oh Shin-ju), pancreatic biliary tract (Professors Dong Seok-ho, Oh Chi-hyuk), liver (Professors Kim Ki-ae and Park Ye-wan), and upper gastrointestinal tract (Professors Jang Jae-young and Kim Jung-wook). About 30 nurses at the digestive system center are not only kind, but also learning the latest medical and technology to support the highest level of medical environment.

Safety has two meanings. The first is safety in the external environment, such as equipment for monitoring patients, the establishment of a manpower system for managing them, and the disinfection of equipment. The second is the ability of the medical staff. Complications of perforation caused by therapeutic endoscopy at Kyunghee University Hospital’s digestive center boast a 0% incidence rate within 10 years. Such treatment results prove that it provides a safe treatment environment and that the medical staff‘s skills are capable of the latest digestive-related techniques.
